Door ajar chime

I have a 2001 escape 4x4 xlt, and am looking for a definite answer to how to get rid of the awful door ajar chime when the key is in the ignition, if you pull the fuse the truck will not run, so i must have to cut a wire somewhere to disable the chime unit itself.. please let me know.. a diagram would be excellent
