A little background on me:
I live in Burlington Twp with wifey-poo and 3 chitlins. When I'm not working (and posting...) my main hobby is going very fast in tight spaces - otherwise known as autocrossing. I've been doing it for several years and change cars often. I bought and drove an Expedition for a year specifically to tow my 1991 Civic Si that was terrible to drive on the street, but autoxed beautifully. My co-driver and I towed the Civic out to Topeka last September and averaged 15-16 mpg at 65-70 mph for the round trip.
I sold the Expedition (and the car and trailer) and bought karts for myself and my oldest child. We both autoxed the karts all year and I pulled a small harbor freight trailer with my Lexus IS300. However, next year my oldest girl will be coming up to drive the small kart while the boy moves up to drive a bigger kart. And he'll have another kart for a summer race series at NJMP, so I will need a 6x12 or 7x14 trailer to haul the 4 karts around. I decided that since we wanted to replace the minivan, and I want to get a travel trailer soon, that I wanted a diesel SUV. With the good experience I had with the Expedition, there was only one place to look - the Excursion (and it's the only diesel SUV, too).
So I've been lurking here for a few months while I searched local ads for 7.3 Excursions. The wealth of knowledge on this form is second to none! And when I finally found what I wanted (and close, too) I was able to diagnose a few things based on my readings here and I knew what to ask about with the dealer and my local dealership when they inspected it for me.
The verdict? My 2001 Ex LTD is a great truck with only a few minor issues: steering (my box seems to be screwed), and a minor oil leak on top. Beyond that it's a beautiful truck and since I got the 2WD version (on purpose) it rides very nicely, better than the 4x4 Expedition. I will be adding Rancho adjustables, a rear sway bar, and new ball joints very soon.
Great info now all you need is 20 more posts so you can setup your signature and receive Pm's. It's not hard to get them real fast in the NJ Monthly BS threads.
Also check your calendar for this Saturdays GTG, I know where you are being I lived in Willingboro for 9 years, the GTG is right off the NJ Turnpike Exit 11.
