I want to build a 4.0L V6- how to go about it

I have a '94 ranger with the 4.0. me and a buddy were sitting around talking and found a complete 4.0 block that needs rebuilt. So i bought it. 100 bucks. Not bad, right? but i was thinking about building this one up a bit. Im not sure on what to do with it though. I want to keep it FI. It is mass air. Is it the same basic idea as a V8? Cam, headers, exhaust, lifters, programmer, heads etc? If so, what should i be looking for powerwise? I have aprox a 1500 dollar budget right now for it.
