PCM location and removal.
Have a 1990 F250 460cid EFI with a bad pcm. where is it located and how would I remove it . truck is 130m miles form a dealer. I am thinking of replacing it my self with a used one. but need the information on the curent unit. to find a repacement. so it needs to be removed.
this truck only has 38 thou. miles. was gifted to me. last owner had duis and could not drive it. reason for low miles.

It's behind the drives side kick panel. To remove it first disconnect the battery and then get a 7/16" boxend wrench and unbolt the wiring harness from inside the engine bay. Then pull the plastic kick panel from inside the cab and remove the retainer clip keeping the EEC in the fender pocket. Remove it by lifting the rear slightly and wiggling it out of the pocket, the rubber gasket at the firewall will have a pretty good grip on the connector so it will take some persuasion to free. Apply some petrolium jelly to the outside of the connector on the replacement EEC to help ease it back in.

Side note: I have always pulled the inner fender liner to pull the ECU from the engine compartment side. I never knew it could be pulled from the inside. Last I remember on my 2 previous '93 Lightnings it was impossible to pull from the inside. So much for having a keen memory!

Yes on your 1993 Lightnings you have to remove it on the engine side and through the inner fender liner.
