I was just wondering what everyone has for a muffler on their trucks these days. So, what do you have and how do you like it.
I recently decided to try this Dynomax muffler on my F150. There are similar ones that are slightly shorter and less expensive, but this on is the exact same dimension as the muffler its replacing.
I have heard Dynomax on some vehicles mostly 5.0 Mustangs and they sound pretty good and are mellow.
I used to be a fan of Flowmaster, but I have gotten to the point to where I am really tired of the hollow resonating sound of Flowmasters. I had a 40 series on my F150 for many years. Then I replaced it with a super 40. Well a few months ago I decided to try the 50 series SUV, to eliminate the interior drone. I'm just tired of the sound.
Also, What really has gotten on my nerves is the 40s that are on my 65 Mustang. It is modified and they are just irritating as hell on the highway. The drone is rediculous and I am finally sick of it.
What are your thoughts?

I have a 50 series on my truck now and I don't like it.. it's just too noisy. I had a super 44 before that and it was more of the same.. just louder. Originally I had an in-cab drone problem too... couldn't hear the radio at hwy speeds, but I fixed that by simply moving the muffler further forward near the back of the cab instead of closer to the rear axle, you may not have much choice for muffler locatons with the Mustang but it should be easier to experiment on the truck.

I am using a Magnaflow 12279 3" Center-Center In/Out 5X8 oval muffler on my '92 F350 w/351W. Sounds very mellow and deep. Body length is 24" long. If anything it may be a little too quiet. I also use a Maremont 45683 3" mandrel bent tail-pipe. Probably an overkill for my stock 5.8L, but the pricing for all the components was very reasonable.
Hmm... lets see,,, Excursion = straight-piped, 96 F350 = Straight-piped, 77 F-150 has a resonator off an 03 F150, looks like a small glass-pack, I have had NUMEROUS comments on it, sounds good and healthy without the harsh bite of a gasser that is straight piped. And I was going to try a magnaflow on the Lexi,,, but the wife shot that down, says she likes not hearing it!?!? Women, who knows!
I have to say, I am still a fan of the Ol'glasspacks, but I do prefer open headers, so for what it is worth,,,,

I had a used 40 series installed on my 94 F150 5.0, I still have the cats on it, so its not to loud. There is a huge thread I started called "muffler question" that has a million different opinions and/or techniques that you should definitly read if ya haven't already.
I am using a Magnaflow 12279 3" Center-Center In/Out 5X8 oval muffler on my '92 F350 w/351W. Sounds very mellow and deep. Body length is 24" long. If anything it may be a little too quiet. I had actually considered getting one of those extra long glasspacks thats about as long as a yard stick. I just think that I want it more mellow than that will be.

I found on mine that actually having the muffler farther back near the rear end gave it a deeper tone, which is what I like. However, that may cause more of the inside drone that I experience. That drone though is unbelievably irritating in the Mustang.

I don't know what it is about the Flowmaster sound. I have had 40 or 50 series on most of my vehilcles over the last 15 years. I used to like it, but now I just think it sounds hollow and echos. I'll do a search for your thread. I don't know if I have seen it or not.

I have some flowmaster 40's on my truck that drone me out. They terminate under the bed but I can still hear the radio while i'm driving on the highway. Can't talk on the phone though,which is nice because I hate it, so that's a plus. I wanted to go to something like the 70 series to quiet it down a bit. I would also like to run the exhaust out the back of the truck. That might help with the drone. Does anyone know how much quiter the 70's are over the 40's? I plan on trying to do true dual long tube's without the cats but haven't quite figured all the mechanics of it out yet.

I learned a few tricks from the Bronco guys. Bassani 58150B2 y-pipe designed for a Bronco. Magnaflow 59929 3" converter and 12279 muffler and finished with a Maremont 45683 3" tailpipe. All the Bassani and Magnaflow pieces are SS. The Maremont is aluminized steel. For clamps I used Dynomax 32219 SS band clamps.
I installed everything in my home garage with no air tools. Purchased a few rubber donut style exhaust hangers from Auto Zone, everything worked out pretty well. If I were to do it again I would use a little shorter muffler...but then I would need a little extra length of 3" pipe....

hey Ty, this is an interesting thread. so you decided you didn't like the 50 series either? or that you're just tired of the sound? I can fully understand that.
I don't NOT like magnaflow but I just feel that they are an expensive glasspack. I do like 'packs but I can't see spending the money on a Maggy.
