Help save my marriage!

Hey folks,
My lovely spouse would like me to put some kind of step on my truck (97 F-250 Ex-cab 4x4). I have never been a fan of these things but I thought I would do the right thing and put some steps on for her. I went to my local shop and picked up some Carr hoop steps. After getting them home and looking at the way they mount I couldn't make myself drill the holes in the rockers required for mounting. Plus I think the look kind of cheesy. I also think that they hang to low and will easily hit when going off road and possibly damage the rocker panels.

Anyway I've been searching the web for some kind of nerf bar step but I can't seem to find any that will fit my truck. 97 f-150s and light duty F-250s but no HDs. When I go back a year they show none available. I assume that a 95 or 96 would be the same as my 97.

I really don't want to put these steps on so if you all could help me find an alternative I can make both me and my spouse happy. She is gonna get rid of me after 28 years if I don't get her some steps.....

Thanks in advance for the marriage counseling......Send me the bill.

My yankee buddy just pretended to be Sir Gallahad for his wife. He found some sort of step exercise pad about 7 inches high 18 inches wide and 2 feet long. He kept it in a trash bag in the truck just in case it got a little dirt on the legs. When sweetie felt like a ride, he pulled out the step pad, set it on the ground, opened the door and helped her in. He swore it was better than foreplay. When he felt the urge he asked sweetie to go riding with him after which she seemed to be more willing to let him ride her. might work for you.

Those aren't to bad but I'm hoping to find a source for some kind of nerf or tube step. I found some tube steps for a regular cab. Do you guys think they will fit? If they do bolt up do you think they would look goofy?

Now that's an idea! I tried to tell her I would tie a rope to steering wheel and throw it to her to get in.... She told me to PACK SAND!!! This truck isn't even lifted...

any nerfbar from around 93 to 97 will fit as long as you have the hd and not the newer body style 250. westin usually makes the most cost effective set but you can find deals on craigslist sometimes too.

What about the Ford (optional on your truck back then) fiberglas step? Runs the full length of the Supercab. It would be a junkyard item now, but you might find one--I have the same truck (but an F-250) and I'm looking for a set myself. You'll need the tubing that bolts to the frame or wherever, to support it, as well.

I don't like steps either. I hate those hoop steps. What about EB steps? Those are the best looking ones.

I looked at our local salvage yards and have been checking the classifieds for some of those but have had no luck.

They are the factory Ford steps that were on Eddie Bauer trucks. The are the best fitting and looking ones I have seen.

I had PUTCO running boards and hand straps or pulls installed on my 87 f150 supercab with 8 foot bed. I know how sweetie feels about getting in the truck. I am short and squat (46 waist 26 legs) so getting in my truck was a hassle. Hold onto the steering wheel and bounce up and down a time or three to get in. The running boards might be a 1/2 inch lower than the frame rail under the door. The hand pulls were installed inside the truck at the top of the door frame and parallel to the ground. I later wished I had installed it on the down slope at the window.

Ok, I finally wised up and called Westin and they gave me the part # for the bars that fit my truck. Now I just have to find someone that doesn't have to special order them. They want extra $$$ for special orders. Even if I have to special order I think I can get them for less than $300.00. That's not too bad considering some of them are close to $500.00.

Thanks for your input guys maybe my wife won't ditch me after all. I told her she should sue the city for building the street to close to her a$$....lol

If anyone is interested the part # for the Westin Signature Series is 25-0625 for black and I think chrome is 25-0620. 80-96 F-series Extended cab.

Did you look at J.C. Whitney? Couldn't remember what your truck was, but they have a pretty good selection & prices aren't too bad going from what you said ( $300 - $500 ). Don't think they even had any over $300. Looked under " running boards " to find them.
