460 EFI build

I have a 1990 Ford F250 with a fuel injected 460. Im planing on rebuilding the engine with performance parts and turbo charging it. I want to update the old fuel injection with a new ECU that i can program for different situations. I was thinking of going with an XFI unit from FAST. anyone have any experience with XFI or any other performance ECU's? i would apreciate any advice.

I'm doing something along the same lines. I have a 78 460 in carbueretor form right now. My friend and I are contemplating a system from Megasquirt. But using a carb blow threw set up is still in consideration. We're searching out info for the easiest route to go. Cost really isn't a concern. Tuneability and set-up are the biggest concerns right now. The plan is a mid-sized turbo for street/strip use. We are thinking 700-800 Hp isn't that hard to do.

After doing some research I'd like to hear/see how a 460 performs, idling and part throttle, with the Jon Kaase P-51 aluminum heads. Jon built a mostly stock engine with his heads and a big solid lifter cam and made 690hp--Dang! Scroll down to "Ford Power Test" and read from there.

Like I said I'm still researching what I'd want from the engine. I think with a mid sized turbo the engine might behave better under cruising conditions on the street. Not sure though.

The trouble with your plan is that the 460's EFI system just does respond well to hot rodding.

mass air conversion could be the ticket or with the ecu your talking about running just tuning it could be fine

-I agree. However, with the stand alone systems mentioned, Terrell460 shouldn't have anything holding him back.

-Terrell460, I like your plan. I actually purchased a turbo about two years ago with big plans. Unfortunately, due to finances, that is as far as it has gotten.

-My plan included megasquirt for tuning. I should think any of the stand alone offerings would work though.

-Check out the turbo forums dot com as an excellent source of turbo info

-Good luck and keep us posted.

Happy Modding
Eric
