I'm looking at a 2006 F150 for purchase. It's a XL Style with the 4.6L and long bed. I test drove it for about 15 minutes at 70 mph yesterday. Afterwords, I pulled the automatic transmission dipstick to smell the transmission fluid and was surprised to find that the dipstick was hot.
How hot should the transmission fluid normally be? I guess that the temp was about 140-150 degrees F - I could touch the end of the dipstick that was immersed in the transmission fluid, but could not hold it without pain. The transmission seemed to operate fine otherwise. The fluid smelled normal - no "burnt" smell.
Please let me know if this is normal. Should I pass on this one?
