This one is a little bit queer. My tranny works ok (a little hesitation or some rough downshifting every now and then) but from 3-4 it's really bad. So bad I've replaced front and rear U-joints twice in 3 years. If I accelerate to 35 mph (1500 rpm) and let off the gas it shifts really rough and you can hear a clunk. But, if i accelerate through to 47 mph (~2100 rpm) it'll shift smoother. Just so I'm explaining this clearly: It shifts really rough from 1500 to 2100 rpms. All the other gears are as healthy as can be expected from a tranny w/ 260k on it. I was thinking about replacing the MLPS but wanted to get some opinions.
Also, internal wear between the forward drum and the center support can cause a real harsh 1-2 shift.
But the F.I.P.L is the main cause of most shifting issues.
I would not spend a dime having anything checked out (other than the fluid level as you can do it yourself) unless I replaced the F.I.P.L. first.

Verified 19 mpg city taking off slow as hell the shutting down at red lights, and with the radiator grill blocked flush, no bed cover, "drag shoot" mirrors on I get 24 mpg at 50 to 55 mph on the freeway empty!
However, with a bed cover, no mirrors and Hydroxy
