Gonna sell the 7.3 4X4 Excursion, what is it worth?

Our Ex is a 2000 model. The only mods is drilled and slotted rotors on the front and 6637 filter intake mod.

It is Blue with gray interior.
It has about 167,000 miles.

Good front brakes. New rear brakes. New bearing hub assembly. New CPS.

Drives and shifts good.

It has a couple small door bumps and usual marks. It does have a scrape on the right rear from a pole I backed into. (never lived that one down).

This has been an excellent vehicle for my wife. I would hop in it today and drive it anywhere. It gets between 17 and 19 mpg depending on driving style and roads.

We are selling it because we are expecting a baby in May of next year and the wife has a problem getting our son into his seat as it is. It would be very difficult with her pregnant. (this was her story).
I have been told that she wants something smaller, Uhhhh, I mean, she said we ARE getting something smaller and it most likely will be a Honda.

I am just curious what you guys have seen them going for in your area. I have done some searches and I mostly see 10-12 grand for a decent one. Ours does have some smallll bumps and bruises but nothing mojor. Whaddya think?

Thanks guys,
Neal

Been trying to sell mine for almost a year on and off. 2000 7.3l 4x4 XLT 153000 miles in very nice condition. Started at $13000 and have been down to $10000. I've only had ONE person look at it. He really wanted a crew cab pickup and was just looking. Not sure why he wasted my time.
My personal experience is you won't be able to give it away. People will buy a V-10 and gladly pay more than buy a diesel, for some reason. I watch the local shopper and computer ads and am amazed at all the Excursions that sell. Most have more miles and are just V-10's. Yet they sell. Still mine sits in the yard and the only response I get is lowballers, scammers, and no shows.
Hope you have better luck than me.

Locally, the 7.3 Excursions are going in the high teens. As a matter of fact, there is only one in a 150 mile radius of me and they want $18,000 for it with 100,000 some miles. If I had the option right now, I would trade my V10 in a heartbeat for a 7.3 X.

I may just bring it to WV to sell it then. LOL
I forgot to mention that It has all new ball joints and alignment done earlier this year.

I paid in the high teens just over 3 years ago. I would love to get that out of it but I feel that is unrealistic now. I am just curious what you guys see in each area. Tjat will give me a good idea where to start.

I just bought a 2003 Ex with the 7.3L and 142,000 Miles for $15,500 in Kansas. It even has some issues I need to fix. It is an Eddie Bauer Edition though. White with Tan Interior. I drove from MN to Kansas to pick it up. I think you just need to find the right buyer.

VaSheriff has a good reputation on FTE. VaSheriff has a good reputation on FTE.
Kelley Blue Book, using my Virginia zip code, says in "good condition", 167,000 miles, it's worth:

Suggested High Retail -- $12,455
Private Party Sale -- $10,255
Trade In -- $7,255

And I think it would be hard to elevate it to "excellent condition" with 167,000 miles on it.

I would remind you that what people are asking for them as opposed to what they are actually selling for are 2 totally different things..... with the mileage and you didnt say if its an xlt or limited... I think you should expect to get $8000-$10000 for it. try asking $10-$12 then you can knock $2K off to close the sale
any exterior defects such as body damage immediately knock you out of the Excellent book range... Many car buyers are stupid and buy vehicles based on what they look like, not the actual mechanical and operating condition... you will get a lot more for a vehicle that looks perfect and runs like crap than the other way around... I have sold enough cars and been to enough auctions that I have personally seen it many times
Really "Its worth what someone is willing to pay you for it!" in the current economy the books are really pointless.
Edmundsis usually much more realistic. and the link will take you to a 2000 Limited 4x4 in clean condition... I would not give clean rating to a vehicle with body damage beyond normal rock chips and maybe mild fading on roof or hood

Yeah I am thinking I would like between 10-12,000 for it. That is within my range, pretty much what I was thinking.

Thanks Va.

I see them on ebay in that range for a good comparable also.

DJ it is a limited. With leather seats.
I am thinking of having it detailed and then put in the garage and not touch it till it sells. LOL

Oh by the way, My wife and I have 2 little ones and do regular trips to CA and back . we sold the Audi wagon after a couple trips deciding we did not have enough room for all our stuff and the kids on long trips.... so my wife was in favor of the Ex... You will be kicking yourself if you sell it if you do many long trips with the family in tow. You will look very manly drving the honda Oddessey minivan. A van or minivan is really the only other vehicles big enough for long comfortable trips with 2 kids in my view...

also updated my previous reply with edmunds link. being where we lived we needed 4wd for the trips as we drive to CA every xmas and it seems to be without fail that we have to drive the day of the years biggest snow storm;...

How about that Excursion mini van? Put the diesel in it and 4x4 and it's sold!

You are right on Greg. I just paid a little over 20K from an auctioneer to get an 01 with only 65000 on her. If you have an XLT or Limited, the carfax is clean, you have all your servicing records, and you find someone who appreciates your mods.... you could ask 14K and go down from there.

I just bought one on Sunday for $10,500. Its a 2001 7.3 limited with 143k miles in very good shape minus a couple of things like the passenger window actuator is going in and out and I just found out that for some reason the PO bolted the middle seat slide rails together so it would not slide. I guess I will be searching for a new one of those. I am not an expert on Ex's but I thought I got a good deal. good luck

Gee I could have delivered my EX to you. I'm in Eau Claire Wi and I get up to Cabela's in Rogers MN once every couple months. I only have a XlT white with gray int. No issues by the way. Yes it has been advertised on craigslist in the Twin Cities by the way. You could have saved $6500. Is that leather worth that much. Once again

EXs are definitely cheaper here in WI (I'm in Chippewa Falls, just up the road from Chipper). I bought my 03 XLT 5.4 with 160K at auction a year ago for $3500 out the door. It's the lowliest of EXs, but it's perfect for what I do - family trips and occasional light towing. Gas was over $4 back then, so that may have had something to do with the price too!
