sweet!! I wouldn't go the troubles right now. i will let you know. i just painted a car in my shop this week and have some more stuff to do to it this week, so i won't have time to work on the truck. I am going to try the injectors first just because there only 130 bucks plus 40 dollars back for sending my old ones back. I wouldn't mind putting new ones in just because the injectors are now the only thing that's not new. if that don't fix it, then i am going to the heads. i am so close to saving my money and buying a good set of heads, intake and carb.

Yeah i got the other wire issues figured out. i ran all new wire for the sensors and it seemed to help a little. I mean I noticed the differance. so i know i am getting close to something.

TFI Module overheating?
Check out the following link:

Well... i decided to take a brake from body work tonite and pulled the truck back in to the shop. since i was thinking of injectors first, i knew number 3 cylinder was giving me fits, so i swaped injector 3 and 2. There was no change. I talked to a guy 2 days ago he said he had a 302 do the same thing. missed at an idle slightly, drive about 5 miles down the road and it lost power, top radiator hose gets rock hard and really hot but the truck doesn't run hot, and all the the same other symptoms i had. He found out when he put his head gaskets on he put one upside down and block a water jacket on the head. I noticed since it's been sitting there there is coolant on top of the intake and on top of the timing cover, but most is around the thermostat housing. so tomorrow night i am pulling the head off and taking a look and see if i did acidently put it upside down. i guess it's easy to do. i know most say top and bottom, i don't know we'll see. if i have a head issue, i know where there are 460's at, the guy said i was more than welcome to them for free. they were running motors too. i will just take them and push rods. change the valve seals and stick them on. but i am going to check the head gaskets first. just sucks since everything is brand new.

I saw a 302 several years ago w/ backwards head gaskets. Fresh from some machine shop. It was running hot, so they took it back. They replaced 1 head gasket. The other was still backwards. The customer got the truck back & drove down the interstate. It got so hot, it shot the freeze plugs out! I actually still have that engine stuffed in a corner in my Dad's garage! He bought it hoping I'd rebuild it for him & put it in his '81 Ford. But then I totalled out his truck for him a few weeks later. He still occasionally reminds me of that! Ah, the good ol' days...

Wow, could be a hairline crack in one of the heads, too. It's easy to pull the pushrods to check length. You might wanna give that a shot. It's a possible cause. Have you noticed alot of steam from the radiator overflow while the truck's running? I agree, you'll probably need to pull that head off. Before you do, have you got access to a cooling system pressure tester? You can pump it up & watch for leaks. If it has a cracked head, you can spin it over with the suspect cylinder's plug removed & shoot coolant across the shop. Coolant entering the combustion chamber is a highly likely cause for your troubles.

no, there's no steam from the radiatior or overflow. just right between the intake and head is wet and a little coolant standing on top of intake. i just think it's weird that i twist the radiator cap off cold and it's pops off. i do some moisture coming from the exhaust as well, just drips on the floor.
