We are still talking about just one cylinder, the number 3 right?
The computer has no control over fuel for one cylinder on a 89 460. It is bank injected with four cylinders on each bank.
If you pull the SPOUT then the computer has no control over the Ignition either.
So this would not be a computer problem, just use your 89 460 computer.

Like Subford said, firing order doesnt matter. Injector pulse does. '87-91 are all basically the same unless it's got the E4OD. The 302 ECM has PS pressure sensor & Knock sensor, though. Only 2 injector pulses, 2 on one side, 2 on the other. Then a revolution later, the other 2 on each side. Man, it sure is hard trying to work on something on the computer from 1000 miles away!!!

The 'Injectors' are black, or the 'Spark Plugs' are black?!

I'm putting valve seals in mine right now. The intake pushrod is a little shorter than the exhaust. If exhaust side pushrods are used, it could cause a problem. Popping back in the intake, stumbling, etc.

Well, may as well scratch that... Damn near every cylinder was different. I even went to one on an engine stand & checked it. All were the same length, but about 1/4" shorter than the ones in my truck. The whole pushrod length thing is just gonna have to fall back to individual necessity, I guess.

Did you all read my post #88 on PG#6 of this thread?

It says that the push rods for the 460 comes in 0.060-inch shorter push rods and 0.060-inch longer push rods but it did not say shorter and longer than what.

Yep. That was definitely the case w/ this one. It's a Motorcraft 'Reman' that I bought out of the junkyard & appears to have had the heads off sometime since 'remanufactured'. That's why I like proper machinework & an adjustable valvetrain. That way I can measure what length I need & order them.

well we worked on it last night, couldn't come up with anything, damn thing was acting normal, you believe that. idle nice rev up wonderfully, didn't smoke up the shop, sounded amazing. got it up to temp shut it off let it set then it start it right back up. while all this was going on we checked the fuel pressure, had good fuel pressure about 36 Ibs. we were going to quit and think about it some more, then i decided to start it back up and get it warm, shut it off and then it did it started doing it's thing, didn't want to start after it was warm. anyway, we stuck the fuel pressure gauge back on and notices that the pressure was jumping up and down(pulsating) you can feel it in the fuel rail, injectors, even the main fuel line, fuel filter as well. what the crap is that about.

Sounds like bad wiring under the fuel pump relay socket and/or the power relay.
Very common.
