New here, I have a questiong about 8 lug rims

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum, but not to Ford trucks. I have an 86 F250 that is my daily scrapping workhorse (300ci POWER!!), and my girlfriend and I just bought a 1977 F350 wrecker to use for hauling scrap cars instead of using the 250 and a trailer. I need a whole set of dually rims for the wrecker because the ones it currently has have the metal rings used to hold the bead. I've heard nothing but bad things about those rims and I need tires anyway, so I want to pick up a whole rim/tire package.

My question is would 8 lug dually rims from a late 80s-early 90s truck fit, or do I need to stick with the 70s era rims? Thanks in advance!

Not sure on the dually. I believe you can go all the way to 1998 on 1 tons. Call a tire shop and ask they should know. A good salvage yard should also know.

Whats wrong with your split rims? They are good as long as you keep air in the tires when they get low or flat is when they become an issue, As long as the back spacing is the same you should be good and the lug pattern I know on single wheels 8 lug up to 96.

I believe the 80's-90's dually rims should fit just fine. And yes - you are smart to get rid of the split ring rims. Those things are scary!

Thanks for the replies guys. My buddy called a few of his friends in the tire business and they all say that the rims should fit. I'm getting a smoking deal on all 6 rims with tires ($180) and I just want to be sure they'll work.

F250army, I want the regular rims because I do all of my work myself, including changing tires. I honestly don't even want to mess with split rings.

A good tire shop will at least mount the wheels you want to see if they fit too. I used the forum to try and find wheels for my 78 and nothing really helped. I went to an old school wheel guy and he called all the way up to the VP level of american racing to get an answer, then VOILA! I had custom wheels for my truck.

Not so fast guys!!! 83 and older used coined wheels, while 84 and up used non coined hub centric wheels. The coins or bubbles on every other lug hole is what centers the wheel on the 83 and older. You'll need to use the 83 and earlier wheels.

I don't know the date, but I do konw that the newer trucks did go to hub centeric wheels.
