1966 f100 voltage regulator

There is 2 wires coming from the A part of the plug (I believe its the A). The previous owner cut one of them. I have the rest of the wiring going where it is supposed to. Where could this second wire go? The owner of the truck led me to believe it was a 65, but upon further inspection of the vin numbers, I came to find out it is a 66. Unfortunately, I ordered a wiring diagram for a 65. How close are they? The 65 diagram does not have this mysterious 5th wire on it. Any help is appreciated.

Are the wires yellow? Does the second wire still have the male connector on the end? Well it should since that wire goes to a radio suppression condenser attached to the base of the voltage regulator.

D4TZ10316A .. Alternator Voltage Regulator / D4TZ10316A replaced C3SZ10316B.

Fits: 1963/81 Thunderbird / ALL 1965/81 F Series Trucks, Bronco's, Econolines, Passenger Cars.

The plug (only) for the regulator is the same 1963/64 T-Bird / 1965/96 everything else.

Yes it is the yellow wires. There is nothing at the end of the wire. It is cut about 3/4 of an inch from the plug. The voltage regulator I have is Napa brand. There is nothing at the base of the regulator. NumberDummy are those the part numbers? And what does a radio suppression condenser do?

Without radio suppression you can pretty much hear your spark plugs firing when you have your radio on by all the pops.

Eliminates ignition interference with the radio.

Ford did this:

C3SZ10316B .. Alternator Voltage Regulator was replaced by D4TZ10316A in 1974.

In 1982, D4TZ10316A was replaced by E2PZ10316A ... which is an electronic regulator.

In 1990, Ford replaced E2PZ10316A with this electronic regulator: FOPZ10316A (Motorcraft GR540B). This part number is still current.

The regulator's wire plug is the same for all of these.

When Ford went to the electronic regulator in 1982, **** car/truck collectors (like myself) were not pleased, because the electronic cover is flat, dull aluminum in color and has MOTORCRAFT embossed on it.

The simple solution is...remove the cover from the original regulator, install it on the electronic regulator. Now...no one will know the difference.

Why some of us do this: It has everything to do with correct and/or concours restorations.

There was no such thing as Motorcraft prior to 1973. So....the last thing someone wants on a 1972 or earlier vehicle...is a cover that sez MOTORCRAFT on it!

My wire on the back of the altenator was corroded in the insulation and caused me grief. Might be worth a look.

I actually replaced all the wires. A few of them were corroded. I basically just remade the loom. Used the same gauge wire, new regulator, new alternator, new battery. Still wont charge properly. I also used dielectric compound on the regulator plug, and some of the other plugs on the truck, and cleaned all the grounds.
