Another thing - if you want to see just how much fluid will push out of a wheel cylinder, install a clear hose over the bleeder screw. Have a buddy push down the pedal all the way down. If you see a geyser as fast as a bullet, it's good.

Don't crush the hoses with the clamps, squeeze them just enough to pinch them off. It won't hurt them.

pull the little pin on the proportioning valve a little out when bleeding.
if you don't do that ,you never have pressure at the rear brakes.
you can read it in the 1978 truck shopmanual volume 1 chassis.
on page 12-24-3

I was able to replace the prop valve and that solved the problem, but led to another. The master was also bleeding by inside. Replaced that too. Now I got brakes again!!

Did you try to pull the little pin on the proportioning valve as was suggested before you replaced it? Prop valve's RARELY go bad. Master cylinder problems..common after several years of use.

The prop valve was a pain all the way through. I tried pushing it pulling it. It would never reset after bleeding the brakes and I had to tear it down on the bench to reset it so the light would go out. After all that I still had no rear brakes. I took a shot in the dark and just pulled one out of an abandoned project that I knew was good and stuck it in there. It was free$$ and I had rear brakes after I installed it. Then the pedal was sqishing out from under my feet. So I put on a new master and now I am happy again.

This is the second time I personally have had prop valve problems. Both times it was with rigs that had been sitting for years. On the other one I just used a wilwood adj. prop valve. This time I used a spare I had.
