tires

I need to purchase 4 tires for the rear of my truck size 9.00 by 20. Someone I think told me that this size was becoming obsolete and people were using a 10 by 20 instead, can someone confirm this? Also does anyone have any input on purchasing these large tires, is there such a thing as a good or better deal online or am I just as well to buy them locally, I would not be apposed to purchasing a nice used set since they are going on the rear, I tried Craiglist but dont seem to have any luck so any suggestion would be helpfull, thanks

Go online and google "Lucas Classic Tire." They are in LA/Long Beach, Ca. I can't post a link because they have the website software that shuts down MS Vista.

Good Luck!

I can't imagine that a 9 x 20 will be phased out of production. There are still plenty of Dayton style rims sold new that use that size. But I'm sort of surprised your truck needs a tire that wide. I forget what year your truck is, but the widest most from our era used was an 8.25 x 20. Like Julie says, you can get them from the vintage suppliers, but buying locally you'll save on shipping. Tire Rack lists about 70 different size tires in 20". If you can beat their prices they are likely stolen...

Are you sure all those Tire Rack 20s aren't meant to be mounted on Dubs rather than Budds??!! I can just see one of our big trucks rolling up to a stop light sitting up tall, neon all a glow, bass rattlin' your windows, and chrome spinners doing their thing. Honestly, I'd think you'd have better luck at a big rig tire dealer. Stu

Thanksfor the picture of the Ghetto Blaster, I am sure Ransom Olds is turning over in his grave..... Lucas Tire does not appear to have anything in a Big truck tire unless I am just missing something. From what I have been told today 9.00 x 20 are being phased out in favor for the 10.00 x 20 both are still avail in a G.Y radial for nearly 400 a piece special order. Thats 1600 for my 52 F-7, too much money, any other suggestions would be welcome. I want a radial for obvious reasons.

900-20 and 8.25-20 are still in use on older box trucks, but more current trucks use tubeless 22.5's. They aren't as common as they were 20 years ago, but any decent truck tire center should be able to help you. Most franchise or chain tire stores will have no idea what you're talking about, but some of the older, independent places will. Again, go to a place that works on large trucks.

If you're wanting radials, no sense checking the vintage places. They'll only have bias. Now knowing that your truck is a F-7, I understand the need for the wider tires. I know that Yokohama lists a radial in both 8.25 and 9.00. Link: http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires_co...usRefGuide.pdf. If you have to go bias, probably Denman is gonna be your cheapest I'm guessing. Here's their link: http://www.denmantire.com/catalog/Catalog.pdf. If radial is the only thing you want, I don't see this being inexpensive.

Yeah, I couldn't resist sticking a needle in a GM ride. Stu
