I have an 05 F250. Truck has 54,000 has never had the power it should. Pulling 5500lbs downshifts on any grade above 1%. Pulling a 4% this weekend at 55F ambient it slowed to 50mph with no wind. That hill is a mile at best. Took it to the 3rd dealer today, they plugged it in and took it for a test drive, couldn't find anything wrong. Any ideas? Fuel filters are new and air filter is clean. Larger exhaust and intake are the only aftermarket mod. Anyone know of a dealer in Utah willing to work on a problem not pointed out with a CEL?

Just a shot in the dark, but did you try taking off your dress and putting on a pair of Levi's and plaid button down first?
Are you pulling on tow/haul mode? the F250 6.0's have hte 4speed right? When you say it doesn't have the power it should, do you have a basis for comparrison? Are you pulling in 3rd or 4th?
Also, where do you get your diesel fuel? Do you consistantly buy from the same place, do you mix it up? I've heard of certain station having poor diesel fuel, and have experienced it myself once, it was noticably less powerful. It was grueling, and it lasted until about 20 miles into a new tank once it was drained to 1/4 tank. I talked to my mechanic about it and he said it was probably fuel, and asked where I had gotten it last. I remembered I was out of the local area when I had fueled up and had to get it from a local brand to where I was, not the normal Sunoco that I fuel up on.

The OP didn't state, exactly, what the truck is. Are we talking Powerstroke? (have to ask, even though this is the 6.0 section). What gears? What load? Tire size? Lift?
What do you mean by "never had the power it should"? Is there more than normal turbo lag? (assuming powerstroke).

Lot's of variables here.
Just asking...
Bah, you're right. I was just in the Excursion forums where there's the v10 and 7.3 with 4speeds, and only the 6.0 with the 5speed. Blah. Still, are you pulling in top gear, or in 4th? A 4% grade with 5500lbs in 5th, I would expect it to be a dog. I wouldn't expect it to go down to 55mph quite, especially if you were maintaining higher prior. In fact, I would expect it to downshift to maintain speed.

I have 3.73 gears running 35 in bfg muds. It is a PSD. I had an 04 prior that would pull the same trailer 75 up a steeper grade and never blink. I am using the tow/haul mode. Not sure what gear it is in. I was doing around 65-70 approaching the hill. I live in Utah County. It has done this over the last several months. Fueled at multiple stations with no change. Hope that answers all the questions.
One more on my part. None of the 3 dealers I have been to want to do any Real trouble shooting. The best I have gotten is the current dealer who offered to have a tech ride with me with a trailer hooked up. They all just plug it in and say all the sensors read OK. What do I have to do to get them to actually inspect things like injectors or EGR valve?

Take the truck, loaded with trailer and all and go get a TECH, not a service writer. Plant him in the truck with you and go show him what the truck is doing.
Sometimes it takes a little persuasion, but persistance will pay off here.
(you MUST have a minimum fuel pressure of 45 psig at all times or you risk expensive injector damage).
- Leaking EGR cooler. Replace or eliminate the EGR cooler.
- Bad injectors. Identify and replace leaking injector(s).
- Bad FICM, usually there are quite a few codes w/ a bad Fuel Injection Control Module.
- Bad HPOP. Usually a "no-start" condition will be experienced with a bad high pressure oil pump. It is a fairly big/expensive job to replace this pump.
