dont judge... just a question.

I had a 4.9 I-6 I broke the bracket for the air pump when changing the head gasket. All that is needed is a shorter belt. You do not need a delete pulley if your tensioner is between the alt. and the a/c compressor. I have done it before. You will here all the talk on fines and what not, but these trucks are to old to even have to pass emissions in certain areas. I live in Mi and we dont have emissions in the middle of no where, No cop is guna check, i have ran all my truck with out cats and had no problems, just better fuel econ. and more H.P. and if you wanta pay to dyno my truck to see if it has more H.P. im game. My 5.8L runs alot better. My air pump actually broke my tensioner an expensive fix, because i took the pipes off and a run thru a mud hole siezed it up. If you need furthur assistance just P.M. me

I deleted the pump on my 94 and 96 F150s, both of mine are 5.0s though. The only reason I did it was because I built new exhaust systems for them both, and I didn't see any reason to have the pump just hanging there.
Cant really tell ya if it helped out with power, since both trucks felt noticeably stronger with new exhaust systems.
Honestly when I look at a smog pump on a truck as old as ours I kinda get the feeling that its just one more potential rotating accessory to lockup, break, and leave me walking home when my serpentine belt snaps.
Sorry I cant really tell ya if it increases power or anything with it gone. I did like Andym mentioned I just measured and threw a shorter belt on mine, no need for fancy aftermarket pullies or anything.
It would be a relatively simple experiment to do, just throw a shorter belt on the truck, bypassing the pump. Then drive it around for a little while and see if you notice a difference. Shouldn't take 3 hours to do, hell I can have the belt on and off of mine in 5 minutes.

1. Do the bottom vacuum feeds to the TAB/TAD solonoids (yellow and pink colored vac lines) just go away? The yellow goes somewhere behind the engine - I think to the air crossover bar which is removed in the smog delete. I am not sure where the pink line goes but it's somewhere near the smog pump location.
2. Did you get any Check Engine Lights (CEL) after your delete surgery?
3. Did you also remove the EGR system? If so, did you do anything other than blank off the EGR valve from the upper intake manny and plug the inlet to the lower intake manny?
