I checked out the downpipe and found a completely loose clamp on it. I got that all straightened out but it's not the source of my sound. I can't find anything that's obviously rubbing. When it's doing it while in park I've gotten under the truck to try to find it but I can't see anything moving nor can I hear it over the engine. I can't hear it on the exterior of the truck over the engine but it's loud and clear inside the truck. I feel the floorboard vibrating and it sounds like it's coming from behind the dash or the firewall.

Once I get the truck nice and warmed up, it'll start to do it constantly at any speed, only stopped when I accelerate (due to the front end of the truck moving up slightly). I can be cruising at 40 with it doing it constantly, throw the truck in neutral, it still does it, but as soon as I shut the truck off and coast OR brake, the noise is immediately gone. I'm totally stumped on this!

Is that DP bent or anything or do they all look like that?

I was wrong about that clamp...I got it completely off (after breaking it it was so rusted) and my grinding seems to be completely gone! I'll get a new clamp tomorrow and put it on and tighten it up real good then I should be alright. It looks like you hit the nail on the head RubberDuck...and thanks to everyone else for the help too!

Nope...that's the way the DP looks from the factory. It's really a POS and should never have been installed on this (or any other) engine in the first place.

Would you characterize this as specific grinding like a bad wheel bearing or would heavy vibration be an applicable term?

Wow, that really is a pitiable-looking piece of metal. I hope mine's not still stock. I'll have to change that if it is.

It was a grinding definitely associated with some vibration through the tranny tunnel. Nothing through the steering wheel at all

Ok, you might think I'm totally out of my gourd for saying this, but when it's making noise, trying turning your windshield wiper on and off really fast (fast enough to not really allow it to move more than a quarter of an inch). See if it stops.

I'm sorry Matt, I appreciate the help but I figured out the grinding noise this evening. I posted about it above. It was a clamp on my downpipe!

Oh, ok, didn't see that.

I've heard complaints about loud vibrations when I was on the IDI forum, and a couple of people had the same problem I had with my '93. The windshield wiper motor bushings can wear through and make one hell of a vibration, although not quite where you described your grinding. Used to drive me nuts until I figured out what it was. Anyway, I thought that might be a possibility with yours.

Which clamp did you take off? I'm glad you found it.

I'll snap a quick pic of it when I'm out puttin a new one on but it was on the downpipe...about halfway between the cat (or where the cat would be) and the turbo right next to the tranny bell housing
