What are the laws here in GA, particularly Rockdale county.....do they do a visual inspection? I know they do the sniffer.....but what else do I need to pass it? Stupid emissions laws! Well, they're not that stupid, it helps the air keep clean. They're just too strict.

We've lived in GA for 5 years now, and I've never seen them look under my vehicle when I've had my emmissions checked. Even when my old Aerostar was occasionally skipping, it passed with flying colors. Unless your exhaust looks like a semi under full load, you probably won't have a problem passing the test. For how bad our air is here in Metro Atlanta, it's a shame how lax our emmisions standards are.

I just went to have my Excursion sniffed last Friday as my tags expired today. The tech looked at my Ex and said you're too big. He opend the door and look at the Ford build decal and said your GCW is 8600#s your 100#s over the exemption limit.
Trade that big truck in on a historical vehicle like mine up here in Bartow County (Cartersville) and you won't be bothered. My blown 472 has not been sniffed at once...only when I vaporize the local county mounties do they sniff...and that's with tears in their eyes they don't have a rust bucket like mine....
Floyd County must not have an emission law....I registered two trucks in this county from out of state....I paid my money.they gave me the plates an I went home
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Jan-03 AT 05:05 PM (EST)]Here is all you will ever need to know about emmissons laws
http://www.cleanairforce.com/ I had my 79 F-150 test and it passed with flying colors. All I have is cats. No egr,no canisters, and no smog pump. As long as the sniffer is clean, you have cats and your gas cap passes you will be ok. The counties that has emmissions is Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale Counties for anyone that did not know. Good luck.

I might be a little pink around the collar.
DutchTreat - hey I live right over the hill from you off of Young's Mill Road....Bartow County doesn't do emission tags either for our "historic vehicles". Even if we lived in Cobb County the would not harrass us - our trucks are over 25 years old.
Let's meet sometime at the Home Depot - you've got a nice looking truck...
Well, I am in the one of the lucky crowds now... Since mine is a 97, they just plug it in and make sure no PCM codes are off... Time to plan that new exhaust...
I am just wondering what the emissions laws will be like in Walton county. I think they are supposed to come here soon. I don't think it will effect me anyway. My newest vehicle is about 29 years old.
