go to progressive.com and get a free online quote. If you are in the military, try USAA, I'm only paying 130 for my F250 for 6 months with 3 traffic tickets.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-Mar-02 AT 08:08 PM (EST)]Don't even thnk about Progressive if you have a motorcycle. I got a quote for a Ducati 916 from them. It was over $1,200 a year. The same policy with State Farm was about $500. No comparison. This from a company who spends millions on advertising bike policies in motorcycle magazines. For shame....

Get as many quotes as you can. It's pretty simple if you can do it online. State Farm has been the best for me. Maybe Progressive is the shiznit if you don't have a bike...

Oh yeah. I moved here from Pennsylvania, and my insurance rates went up almost 100%. Unbelievable! Colorado really stinks for insurance rates. Any political candidate who is for insurance reform and has no gun control agenda gets my vote!

UglyF250,

The politicians beat you to it. They already did "insurance reform" in Colorado, and that's why your paying more now. The politicians and insurance industry call it "no fault."

As usual, when the politicians call it one thing, it's really the opposite, so what it means is that everybody's at fault, so we all get to pay more. Ha ha ha ha.... Joke's on us suckers.

Maybe you could lobby your elected representatives for some enforcement of the compulsory insurance law, so insurance companies wouldn't gouge us even more for "Uninsured Motorist" coverage, you know, where you get to pay extra for all the scumbags that don't even have insurance, since it's not their fault and all....

Sorry, am I ranting?

Don't even get me started about campaign finance "reform" and gun control....

Everyone's insurance situation is different and for a lot of people, I don't think it's too outrageous at all.

I live near Longmont and I'm 40 years old, no one under 25 driving in the household, only one moving violation in the last 8 years, for speeding 10 over, 12K miles a year driving to work, I'm paying $198.00 every 6 months to one of the big well known insurance companies for full coverage of a mid 90's F-250. That's liability $100/$300/$50 thousand and full comprehensive, theft, collision with a $0 deductible. Pays for a new windshield every few years after a rock hits it.

The truck gets a $40 good driver discount, $15 off for multiple vehicles and a $20 utility vehicle discount.

Between the vehicles, I'm paying $86 a year additional for mandatory uninsured mororist coverage, something I'm not happy about, but in my opinion the reality is there will ALWAYS be uninsured jerks on the road, regardless of the law, sanctions, jail time or whatever. Hell, there's people out there driving on revoked licenses. I look at it as protecting ME and my family.

It costs twice as much for the same coverage on my wife's newer small car, still not unreasonable. I pay a LOT more for homeowner's insurance.

Well, it could be worse. There was a legislative proposal maybe six or eight years ago to add a few cents of tax to the price of gas to pay for insurance for people that couldn't or wouldn't get their own.
Whether we'd be better off with that rather than paying directly out of pocket for UI motorist coverage to our insurance companies is a question, but the concept really rubbed me the wrong way.
It's the old "pay me now or pay me later" thing. You still got to pay.

They have been gradually tightening up the laws and enforcement of uninsured drivers, they're still out there, but I don't think as many as there used to be. The real problem is there aren't enough cops patrolling the roads to enforce the laws that are on the books already.

Best regards,

EG

A couple of years back I did a very thourough research of insurance rates for myself. State Farm was the hands down winner, the next nearest rates were a little more than 50% higher. The companies that you always see & hear advertising their "low" rates are the highest by far. Your best bet is to make a lot of phone calls & let them know you are comparing rates looking for the best deal.

Yup, I think I'm getting a pretty good deal from Allstate. I've got my home insurance with the same broker, if you have homeowner's with them they'll usually give you a good deal on auto unless your driving record's bad (like mine was when I owned a '69 Chevelle SS-396- but what fun)

You're definitely right, I've called a few of the discount insurance companies and ones that advertise on TV like GEICO, and they didn't even come close to Allstate's price.
