Any interest in axle swap?

Im getting ready to convert my 70 crewcab 2wd to a 4wd using late model axles from an 06 F250. This will allow me to run the late model wheels with 8 on 170mm lug pattern. My plan is to run the factory 20" wheels from the F250s, if I can find any without having to have a stimulus package to afford them!! Anybody interested in a thread and pix of the conversion chime in and let me know. I will be keeping it coil suspension since this is what the 2wd ibeams used and the donor axle is coil from the 06.

Sounds like a pretty cool swap I'm sure that someone else agrees with me and would like to see pics of the process as well. Good Luck

I would be very interested in seeing a swap of this type. I have done similar swaps, and would like to see what others will do about the difference in frame width and coil spring mount. There is quite a bit of difference here, and the early truck dimension will require some thought.
Steering will also be something that I am interested in seeing, since this is often a very inovative ordeal that often lends itself to many interesting options.
Since the frame has a very different dimension at the cab, the stock radius arm will not be used, but can be modified by using a link system.
Anyway, just subscribing to see how this turns out.
Good luck, I am looking forward to this build.

I too am interested to see how this turns out. I was pondering it with earlier Super Duty axles. I have a Dana 50 housing out of an '01 F250 to mock up. Some have said on here that it absolutely will not work.

I will be starting on it this weekend. Since there are some interested I will be taking pix as I progress. 75F350, I plan to modify the factory coil perches to match the width of the coil locations on the axle. The 06 coil perch is not as wide as the leaf spring perches of the earlier models. From my previous measurements, its within 3-4 inches. I will know exact this weekend. I also plan to lower the perches to help give some lift without purchasing aftermarket coils. Thats only if its needed to run the tire size I plan to run. I also plan to modify the factory radius arms. Not only because of the angle they will need to be but because they look like crap. I will use a steering box from a 70s 4wd and modify as needed.

I regret to inform everyone that due to a possible job change my project will have to go. My axles, tranny, eng, and truck will be for sale or trade. I have a company vehicle now and may be losing it, so I am in need of transportation instead of a project. If I get the eng and trans put in to drive it the truck and eng may not be for sale but the axles and 4wd tranny will be. If your interested in the truck, better hurry before I get something going.
