Question 59 F250 4x4 conversion

I have a very clean 59 F250 2wd Custom Cab with 65,000 original miles that I am hoping to do a stock 4x4 conversion on. Could someone tell me the differences in the parts between a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton. I've got some real mixed info. concerning front axle, transfer case, springs, steering etc. etc. I would like to find out how many of the parts are interchangable on the 1/2 and 3/4 ton because I have a line on a complete 1/2 ton 4x4 for parts or would I be way better off to find a 3/4 ton. I heard I could use the axle and just swap the hubs out to 8 lug. I also heard the 4x4 front ends on 1/2 and 3/4 tons were all the same (dana44)and it was only the rear that changed for the weight rating. My truck even has the optional power assist steering and wondered if I could retain that also. Spring information would help also and any info concerning the year span for my parts that would be correct.I want the conversion to be as correct as possible so any help concerning the parts and the process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

1/2 ton 4x4 utilized dana 44 front axle and is the same as 3/4 ton.

1/2 ton rear axle ford 9 inch, 3/4 ton used dana 60.

You could use the front 4x4 1/2 ton front springs for 3/4 ton also.

Rear axle springs are different.

It depends on what you are going to do to determine if you want 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton.

3/4 ton utilized 4.55 front and 4.56 rear gearing so top speed is about 60 mph.

1/2 ton had 3.92 front and 3.89 rear gearing. You could go a little faster on the highway. If you aren't going to haul much I would go with a 1/2 ton.

Dana Spicer 24 transfer case is the same for 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton.

I do not know if the power assist would work on 4x4. I would though if the steering box is good on the 4x4 I would use it. It has a bigger sector and shaft and worm to handle the front axle.

Is the frame of the 1/2 ton 4x4 good? You could transfer the front clip, cab and box over.

Good luck.
