How many gallons for oil in 6.9L?
Hello all..bought a 85' Ford F250 with the international 6.9L motor (automatic) and wondering how much oil do I need when I do a oil change..and what oil filter would you guys recommend for this motor? For oil I was going to use AMSOIL Synthetic.
I haven't looked yet, but is the oil filter hard to get to?

Can someone tell me what the manual says for this motor when changing out the oil and filling it to the recommend level? At how many quarts..WITH doing a oil filter change..as it doesn't make sense changing the oil but not the filter.
And the guy above me..get your own thread. Hell your not even in the right section lol

No need to be an ***, aight? You need 3 gallons and a Motorcraft FL-1995 filter, as stated by others. Ignore whatever a parts store behind-the-desk moron may be telling you about the filter application, it fits the IDI just fine, and that's all that I've been running in my own truck. Wix filters are very expensive, so save them for your fuel system. Also, forget about Rotella-T, or any other oil with the "CJ-4" specs - this is for new trucks running cats and DPFs, our trucks need "CI-4 Plus" oil, I usually use Mobil Delvac and Chevron Delo 400 (beware of the Delo 400 LE, this is a CJ-4 oil, you want the older Delo 400 oil) but last time I filled up with some cheap farm-equipment oil from TSC and my truck seems to have quit burning oil for the most part, so you bet next time I will be using that same oil again You fill up the filter before install, dump about 10 more quarts in the engine itself - your total with the PSD filter will be 11 quarts, so three 1-gallon jugs is good because you fill up and you still have a quart left for down the road when the engine burns some and needs a refill.

So a Motorcraft FL-1995 oil filter and 15w 40 Mobil Delvac oil (buy 3 gallon jugs?) Is there a certain brand I need to get for the Mobil Delvac besides the obvious getting diesel oil? I just got this truck last week and want to make sure I get the right crap for it, so sorry if my question is dumb.
Is this Mobil Delvac Synthetic? Or is it just called Mobil Delvac? So you guys wouldn't put in AMSOIL oil? My buddy says that's good stuff.
O and as far as the guy, I wasn't trying to be an *** just that I hate it when people purposely derail someones thread like that.

Yes, Motorcraft FL-1995, Walmart has them for less than $10. Oil - 15w40 Mobil Delvac 1300 is what you can usually get at most parts stores, and it works good. It comes in 1-gallon jugs, so getting three of them will give you plenty of oil for the initial fill and then later top-offs. Synthetic ain't really needed with these engines, if it was a freshly rebuilt engine then I'd run synthetic, but on a well-used engine there rally ain't much need for it. Amsoil is some good stuff, but very expensive, if you want to run it that's your call, it certainly won't hurt anything, but the IDI don't really need it.

I'll just go with the Mobil Delvac.
