There are no cracks, that is a view of the 1 halves of the spider housing and the end of the spider gear pin in that hole with a machining mark at the end of it.

Great write up. In the 1st picture with the cover off, inside the round cutout, does that look like a crack?
No crack, fresh out.

I hope this is not a dump question to all. When you service your rear diff I notice you remove the cover, drain, inspect and add new fluids. Should you do the same for the front diff? Does ford or any aftermarket make a aluminum covers for the front diff? Is it necessary to change the front cover to aluminum?
Hey Mike, the front diff gets serviced the same as in the rear...idk if Ford makes a aluminum cover for the front, and no its not nessary to to have aluminum covers at all, but these covers help distrubute heat aswell as add strenght to the axle hosing...hope this helps?...

For the front, I just used a hand pump, emptied it, and refilled. I didn't feel like messing with the cover, with that tie-rod right in the way

For those running the Mobil 1 that says it already had the LS additive in it, did yall have to add some Ford friction modifier to it? I know I did. Just wondering.

I've got about 700 miles on it now, and I have not had any grabbing. That's enough miles to comfortably say I won't have to add any FM.
What I don't know is how well the LS is working. Not going to worry about it.

I changed my rear gear oil a couple of months/5000 miles ago, using the same Mobil 1 75W-140.
I have had no chattering on turns at all, and I did not add any of Ford's friction modifier additive. The Mobil seems "good-to-go".

Too much friction modifier is'nt good, as it makes the clutches slip more.
Also Mike there is no such thing as a dumb question...
+1 on that!
