I have an 1" impact hammer wrench if you would like to borrow it to tighten the nut, that should do it.

Alot of guys do it, but I dont like to use an impact on the gear box nut. IMO the hammering action isnt good for the internal gears of the box. I have no evidence of this, just personal thought. Take it for what its worth.

Sounds pretty brutal on the internals to me too. I don't think his problem is so much the tightness.
