2002 Escape no-start

Parked our V-6 Escape last night. It was fully warmed up after about an hour on the highway. Tried to start it 10 minutes later, and it started for about 2 seconds, then died. Cranked it 4 or 5 times and it would not start. It cranked strong, but didn't even try to catch. At that point we just jumped in the other truck and I didn't try again until this morning. Started right up this morning, no delay at all, and seems to run fine.

I suspected a fuel supply problem last night, but now since it starts and runs fine, I suspect something else.

Reading this forum the IAC valve seems to come up often as an issue. Does the above symptom sound like IAC? Or MAF? Something else?

It's an '02, 80k miles, and other than a failed axle bearing at about 36k it has been a perfect vehicle, so I haven't spent much time in this forum. Any ideas appreciated.

Oh, almost forgot, I ran the cluster test mode this morning. I have the values if anyone thinks they would be helpful, but the one that I noticed was the DTC value of 9352 and it was flashing. That seems to me like a code for the cluster itself, not the PCM, but I don't know.

Cool 02 escape

i have a similiar problem with an 02 escape v-6 24v. but my experience has showed that you should not rule out fuel pump/fuel delivery. fuel pumps can often not want to pump fuel after the vehicle is shut off and them attempted to be re-started 10-15 min. later. i have had fuel pumps do this, and then act fine for weeks or months. sometimes it takes a long time for the fuel pump to completely fail. i hope to be able to check these sensors (maf) (crankshaft sensor). but you have to have the problem repeat itself in order to make a positive assesment. i just want to know if somebody has data supporting how often these escapes seem to have fuel pump failures. any help oput there?

After a bit of searching & reading, it seems that the general fix for DTC 9352 is a new battery. I still cannot find an explanation why it does not have the usual 'P' in front of it though.

Our 03 did basically the same thing earlier this summer & I posted here:

http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/86...rely-runs.html

It has not since then exhibited this problem with over 10k additional miles.

I often wonder why someone would suggest changing a "lifetime" fuel filter?

I appreciate all the suggestions above, and I guess it is time I updated this thread.

The starting issue went away for about 3 weeks, and then it came back. It always started for us, but would sometimes stumble and jiggleing the throttle would sometimes be required.

So, not wanting to just throw an IACV at it, I took it to the dealer for diagnosis. There were no codes to read, and of course it started flawlessly for them over the two days they had it. Finally the tech said that all he could think of was the IACV, so as soon as they mentioned that possibility I authorized them to change it out on my own responsibility. In the end I guess I did just throw a part at it.

It's only been about 5 days, but it's been starting perfectly and I think the cold idle is also working a little better. Time will tell, but I think the IAC was the issue. I didn't ask to see it. Should have.
