I used to run a dedicated all-terrain tire on my Expedition, but my driving characteristics have changed and I spend more time on the road these days. I recently had new tires installed and went with the Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country. 60,000 mile warranty and very quiet and smooth riding. Certainly not as aggressive looking as the A/T tires I am used to, but I have had the Uniroyals since April and logged about 13,000 miles on them. They still look brand new and are awesome in the rain. Anxious to try them in the snow this winter. A co-worker had the same tire on his Bravada and he said they were fantastic in the snow. For my size (same as you), I paid $136/tire at an NTB.

I've been running Fireston Destination A/T for a couple of years now and am quite happy with them. I got them because they're rated quite high and are relatively inexpensive. They've been great for my city/suburban driving, and they're a ton better than the conticrap that was on the truck when I bought it.

I actually wanted them! My situation at the time was that I noticed one of my sidewalls had a nice X-shaped slash in it when I got to work and the sidewalls were cracking and I was going on a long trip that weekend. I called around to get the Destination A/T's, but nobody had them in stock and it would be a week before anyone could get them in, at the earliest. After talking with a salesman at NTB, he sold me on the Laredos, and I've been happy with them.

I was just looking at getting Destination M/Ts, will definitely report on them if I get them. Right now I have Goodyear Wrangler HPs and these are terrible tires.

I have used Michelin LTX M/S and currently have Michelin LTX A/T 2. Both are great tires and will last a long time. I replaced the LTX M/S after 50,000 miles and they still had 6 to 7/32 of tread left. I wanted a more aggressive tread so I went with the A/T 2. They are quiet and will get me out of anything! You pay more but you get more...

The LOML's '97 had over 100,000 miles on the LTX M/S's we put on the vehicle in 2000. I was checking the treadwear indicators regularly, but the tires weren't wearing out! Great tires! However...

On the way home from DisneyWorld, the driver's side front let go at on I-75. I felt some vibration, and thought, "Huh, it feels like a bulldozer or something messed up the road!" Then, as the vibration got worse, I was thinking, "I need to..." Blam!

The car pulled over into the left median (from the left lane), but I managed to catch it and ease her all the way back over the three traffic lanes to the right side grass. The Big Guy was watching over us, because there was no one near or behind me.

The tire was completely trashed. It had peeled the inner fender off (my wife found it on our side of the road about a quarter mile back) and, as I found later, it had torn the running board light harness apart.

The lesson here? Really old tires (9 years, in this case) are not the best thing to have on your vehicle. No matter how 'good' they look.

Anyhow, back on topic - I looked at TireRack and several other places. I checked Consumer Reports. It turned out my usual tire store had a really good price on the General Grabber, which was top-rated in CR. In fact, I think it was one of the cheapest available.

Why not Michelin's? Well, we are looking at selling the old girl, as she is really getting on in years, and has over 173K on the clock. I didn't want to soak almost a Grand on new rubber. I do love the LTX, though.

Although (for some reason) the shop put E-rated tires on, the Generals ride really nice and smooth, with no road noise. You may want to check them out.

I bought my '01 in June of this year and it had Firestone Destination A/T's all the way around. It's 2WD and I don't go off road but do travel on dirt roads here in central OK. We have also had a BUNCH of rain and these tires have been champs. They "sing" a little on the road, but with the insulation in the Expy and the windows up you can't even hear them. I have put 6K miles on her since I got her and the tires don't show any wear.

I'm sold...

Bridgestone Dueler Revo A/T's. I went up a size to 285/70R17. These are awesome in the Florida torrential rains. 50,000 mile warranty. We've put 10,000 miles on them in 18 months and they look near new still. Smooth ride and no road noise, unlike some other A/T's.

Just purchased Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 AT's, 265/70R17. Love em. Great in the rain, and I'm looking forward to getting them in the snow. On the highway, it's a smooth ride, no noise to speak of, and they look fantastic. Sometimes I'll just stand there and stare at them!

I have enjoyed my Michelin LTX set of tires. My truck rides smoother and quieter compared to the Firestone Destination tires I had on there previously.
