GregsSD is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
One time I was on a camping trip to Pismo Beach, pulled off the freeway to get lunch, after having lunch we were heading back towards the freeway onramp and started hearing a strang noise like "whack, whack, whack". Pulled over to check it out and it was a wire coat hangar stuck through the tread and it was whacking the fender as it spun!
I lucked out, I just used some wire cutters and cut off the hangar where it was sticking out of the tire and never had any problem with it leaking.

I had a "road gator" do this to my 97. I was traveling on the inside lane with a car on the right side of me and could not avoid the strip of tire, by the time I was able to pull over this is what was left of my tire.

I was cruising on I-95 in Maine at about 75mph and the right rear tire on my Expy blew, (factory continental) and by the time I got it to stop swaying and yawing and got her pulled over, the tire was unsalvageable. There were no indications of why the tire blew but I thought all 7 of us were toast. It only had 28K miles on it.

About the time of the Firestone fiasco, (I have an Exploder) I was chatting with a fellow from our church who happened to be a lawyer for Conti and others. He mentioned the Expy/Conti and Fords in general as being "overrepresented" in the blow-out/roll overs in focus at the time.
Congrats on not being a statistic.

I blew out a Medalist Sport King A/T on my 94 F150. They were the tires that were on it when I bought it. They were pretty well used up, had maybe 10% tread left.

Some friends and I had a Dodge neon with a knocking motor that we were beating to death in the mud before we cut it up for scrap. The neon ended up stuck in a mud hole and after continuous flooring trying to get it unstuck the motor finally blew. We then decided to take turns running the car over with our trucks. I ended up taking my passenger side front tire up and over the drivers side front fender off the car, I got the tire stuck when the hood buckled and caved in. I engaged my front locker and ended up just spinning one tire in the mud, and spinning the other tire on top of the car where the tire was chewed to pieces.

Moral of the story, the strangest thing I ever had cause a flat tire was a Dodge Neon

I had a Hercules Xtra-Trac blow out on my Courier a little while back, while loaded down doing about 65-70 on the highway. It had been low earlier in the day, and I was now about 190miles into a 200mile drive. The sidewall just fell apart. Luckily it was late, there were no other cars on the road to run into while I was swerving all over the place, and I kept it fairly controlled. I later looked at the DOT code on the other one, they were about 15years old. The other one has major signs of ozone deterioration, but no cracking, even after 15years of ID sun and heat. Just weird.
They were both bald anyways though-

I once had a flat caused by the tang of a file that punctured the tire. Another time I was moving over so that on our narrow streets two cars could pass by each other when there was one parked. Anyway I didn't notice a chunk of the curb was broke and sticking out. It sliced the tire and after about 8 or 9 ears of owning the van finally had to find out how to get the spare tire down. Found out that the jack was a piece of junk so since I was only a couple of blocks away from the house I went home and got my little floor jack and four way wrench to change it.

I am at work ATM. Since I have been back Wednesday our 08 F350 has been pulling to the right hard and vibrating. The shop changed the passenger side tire due to an egg on the sidewall and the problem went away for a day or so. They didnt find anything amiss with the drivers side tire. Just earlier I was driving back to the yard and noticed when I slowed down I heard a drone from the drivers tire and driving at low speeds would wobble the whole truck. When I got back to the yard I pulled the truck into the shop and inspected the drivers tire, there is a split starting at the top of the outside sidewall and extending to about middle tread. All tires on the truck are factory except the passenger side one that was changed a few days ago. Continentials with a DOT code of middle 2007.

Weird even with growing up on the farm and now in the city knock on wood the only things I've had cause flats was nails and bolts. The only tire problem I had is on of the stock BFG LongTrails on my 00 F150 at 75k threw it's tread. Still held air and I had no idea how long it had been that way.

I remember years ago, when I was much younger, my dad got a flat tire in our driveway from running over a drill bit, which was kinda weird.

I've only had I think two flat tires since I've been driving, and I can't remember what caused them.

I got a flat tire while going through town on my way to work one morning - When the guy at the tire shop pulled the tire off the rim, this fell out:

Tire was destroyed and still had about 50% or so tread on it...

It was shortly after this, I decided to buy new wheels since I needed tires anyway lol...
