I like the mirrors that came on my truck. The finish has held up unbelievably well. They are swung in for less width at the moment.

Bingo! You answered your own question.

Haha. Well I meant whats wrong with an aftermarket mirror that is stainless, like the ones LMC and Bronco Graveyard have. The one aftermarket one that I already have is not stainless so the answer to the problem with that one is obvious.
How much do OE mirrors cost? So theres only like 20 of them left at dealers? I tried all your part numbers on this site but they dont come up at all, that sucks. New Ford Parts - Genuine OEM Replacement Parts I love that site. I buy tons of stuff there, cheap and tax free.

Where did you come up with this jazz? I never said any such thing.

I tried all your part numbers on this site but they dont come up at all, that sucks.
NOTE: I see you have a 1977. The mirror kits and the mirror heads being discussed in this thread were specific to 1978/79's.

They were not (usually) installed on 1973/77's as original....because they were not available until 1978.

There were two different types of low mount stainless steel swing lok mirrors installed on 1973/77 F100/350's.

The difference is: The bracket of one type is curved (D6TZ17696A). The bracket of the other type is flat (D4TZ17696A).

The mirror head used with these two mirrors is the same (D4TZ17723A).

D6TZ17696A is obsolete, but there are 34 still available at dealers, obsolete parts vendors. D4TZ17696A is STILL available from Ford but the quantity is very limited.

The D4TZ17723A mirror head is obsolete, but I located 13 of these at dealers, obsolete parts vendors.

If you wish, I'll type the MSRP and discount price for D4TZ17696A, list the sources that have D6TZ17696A and D4TZ17723A.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1978/79 ONLY:

The Stainless Steel mirror kit part numbers won't come up...for the simple reason that all are obsolete as I said in Post #10.

The ONLY mirror kit that one obsolete parts vendor has is the painted mirror kit. I also found some of the painted mirror heads. These parts are also obsolete.

I found a few of the stainless steel mirror heads (Post #10) which are also obsolete.

FTE has Ford Dealer Parts Department sponsors that give parts discounts off the actual Ford MSRP to members.

Y2KFORDPARTS.COM = Millennium Ford in Seattle WA.

SILVERSTATEFORDPARTS.COM = Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas NV.

When you buy goods from out of state sellers, there is no tax...regardless whether the goods are autoparts, piano's, clothes...whatever.

The ones that are on my truck are staying. I have a few spares that are not in great shape, but restorable. No pitting on the arms. Good enough?

It's because they were copied at a much lower quality. Some last a few years, some don't last at all. Here on the east coast, the ever-changing elements kill anything that's not up to snuff.

Numberdummy, I guess I read the post wrong about the 20 mirror thing. I wish I could see what these mirrors look like. I see the MSRP and discount price on the D4 mirror assembly, that makes the aftermarket ones seem like a joke. I'll go OE for sure. But I don't know that these mirrors look like. I guess maybe I have an untrained eye but my one factory mirror, the ones at Bronco Graveyard that that other OE mirror pictured on page one all look the same to me. I'm not sure what the curved bracket difference on the D4 vs D6 means either. I would like to put the correct 1977 mirror on my truck but I'd like to know what that looks like first, for all I know my one factory mirror might be from a 1978/79.

Edit, I just found that D4 assembly on an old ebay acution so I now know what it looks like. I like and I'm going to buy those and I know where to get them. Thanks for all your help.

I also found that D6 assembly on ebay being sold by a Ford dealer. Buy it now is $29.99! They say it fits early 80s Econoline vans. The brackets that bolt to the door look a little odd? Thoughts on this?

1980-84 FORD E SERIES OUTSIDE MIRROR STAINLESS R OR L:eBay Motors (item 120347928804 end time Nov-05-09 07:01:58 PST)
I have a set of the D4 mirrors previously mentioned, it's the one I want to get rid of.

The D6 assembly is for the Econoline vans, their doors are different so the brackets are for the vans ONLY. Also, the arms are different....they are curved upward.

You are saying you have the D4 mirrors for sale? Do they look like this? Are they new with mounting hardware?

What I was asking about that Econoline mirror is the part number is the exact same as the D6 number listed above to fit the 70s F series.

Yes. The D4 KIT. That's exactly what I have. Two of them to make a pair. They are NOS.

According to parts catalog, the D6 mirrors are for trucks with different back-of-cab equipment hence the T prefix. It also says it fits 1977 and later E-series. This seller is misinformed.

From the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog / Final Edition 10/88.

D4TZ17696A .. Low Mount Swing Lok Mirror Kit-Stainless / R.H. & L.H. / 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" Mirror Head / Bracket is Flat.

Fits: 1973/77 F100/350 / Will also fit 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco.
---------------------------------------------------------------
D6TZ17696A .. Low Mount Swing Lok Mirror Kit / R.H & L.H / 5 1/4" x 8 1/4" Mirror Head / Bracket is Curved / Obsolete

Fits: 1973/77 F100/350 except with camper, or with a truck over 10,000 GVW.

Will also fit 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco.

Parts catalog sez these D6TZ mirrors also fit 1977/79 Econolines, but I believe this to be an error.

For one thing, ALL 1975/79 Econoline doors are the same (and are the same thru 1991). For another thing...

1975/79 Econolines: There are four different specific to Econoline only low mount swing lok mirror kits.

All have specific to Econoline only part numbers: D7UZ17682A - D8UZ17682A - D8UZ17682C - D9UZ17682A.

Econoline mirrors will not fit F100/350's and Bronco's because the Econolines door contour is different.

D4TZ17696A and D4TZ17696A use the SAME mirror head: D4TZ17723A.
================================================== =======
Blown 331: inre to the link you posted for those D6TZ17696A mirrors.

The dealer selling the mirrors sez the Ford "list" price was $82.99. The dealer is LYING!

D6TZ17696A MSRP: $58.22 each / Dealer NET cost: $35.00 each.

These prices were taken directly from the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, that EVERY Ford/Mercury/Lincoln dealer uses.

MSRP = Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price .... aka the "list" price. List: What is listed in Ford Price Books for a (suggested) retail price.

I have a challenge for you Bill.....to try and find the gaskets for the type 7 low profile swing lok mirrors. The upper and lower gaskets.
