2003 SD F350 OIL 15W-40 vs 5W50 Mobile1 FS

I can't find the Mobile1 Full Synthetic Diesel Oil at the local Walmart over the past 6 months, so I'm thinking of running the Mobile 1 Full Synthetic 5W50 instead.

Anyone have any info on "why" or "why not" on a 2003 F350 6.0L?

And where do you guys get oil filters? And what brand to use?

Diesel oil is formulated with anti foaming agents that standard oil isn't. It's more than just the viscosity.

dont use the oil. thereis alot more to it than just viscosity. Lookaround try 0/40 it specs out better then 15/40 in all situations. Mobil, rotella both are excellent choices

Return it I will. I forgot about the added/required foaming agents. I'll check a few more places first. I have another month & half before the change is due.

I have read lots of threads where people really like the quieter and smoother starts with Mobile 1 Full Synthetic over Rotella. Granted, Rotella is a good oil, but I have been very happy with Mobile 1 and Royal Purple.

As soon as I get all my guages installed, I will check things out with the Mobile 1 vs RP and see if there is a temperature/MPG difference. Thanks all for your input.

I am one who went to Rotella FS. On the first oil change after start up I immediately noticed a smoother engine. ON the first cold start up no more romps. Driveability cold was immediate vs waiting for the romps to clear.

I will continue Rotella FS diesel oil.

Some other groups sited how M1 FS was cj-4 rated, but it actually exceeds CI-4+ ratings across the board, AS DOES THE ROTELLA FS CI-4+. Some of the FS oils may be rated CJ-4, but newer tests show that many of them exceed the CH-4 & CI-4+ tests.

See here: http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf

I think my statement @ the Rotella was regarding a psuedo-synthetic they make, or maybe the older dino oil, not FS.

vettdvr, you make me want to find the Rotella FS and try it this next round (in a month). Where can it (Rotella FS) be purchased (in CA)?

Also look at Delo 400 5w-40 it is what I'am using and works good in my 03 6.0 I'am not going back to 15w-40 again. Truck starts better on the synthetic and seems to run better. I think I will notice the bigger difference on the second oil change when it will be all synthetic no dino oil residue.

I was never a beleiver till I said what the h*ll it was a good move.

With the 15w-40 it used to take longer cranking to get the truck started even in 15 celcius weather with the synthetic it fires right up. The cold engine sluggishness is gone.

I don't know if its my imagination but I do have a 6spd so I can pull my 6.0 down to 1000 rpms and it still pulls no stalling or lugging. Wouldn't do that with the 15w-40.

The first day the I put the 5w-40 in it was where is the noise the clatter its gone

I don't beleive in Amsoil it is being pushed to hard everybody and their dog is a dealer. I will stick with Chevron if I could get the Premium Blue I would try that.
