I have @ 300 miles on a new 2010 F150 screw platinum, with the 5.? v8, 355 rear. My mileage has been terrible. I am getting 13.3 currently. Is the mileage supposed to be this bad during the break-in period ? I was getting better mileage on my 08 F250 cc 6.4 diesel, and that was bad. I hope it will get better. What type of mileage should I expect on the highway and city ??
Thanks ! Wade
Well I have about 500 miles on my 2009 5.4 with 3.55 rear Scab as of today and have just drove on 2 lane mountain roads (up and down) plus small town traffic and my MPG meter is on 19.1! I havn't got it on the big road yet. So needless to say, I'm a happy camper!
I just filled my 2010 XLT (4x4, 5.4L, 3.73, 8' bed, 8200# GVWR) at 1,229km (~ 764 miles).
The fuel usage for this fill-up (calculated from the pump receipt and trip odometer) was 13.95 L/100km, which converts to 16.8 miles/US gallon.
Most of this distance was commuting (75% highway, 25% suburban), with no passengers or cargo, stock tires, and a tonneau cover.
I am still in the break-in period so speed was variable, but I tried very hard to keep the RPMs under 2000.
The 2010 fuel usage so far compares very favorably to the 2001 XLT (4x2, 4.6L, 3.55, 6.5' bed, tonneau cover) I traded (around 230,000 km) which was typically 12-14 L/100km for the same circumstances.
The 2010 is newer but it is a larger, heavier truck with four wheel drive, a bigger engine and lower rear gearing.
At 100 km/h (60 mph) on a level highway the 2001 would turn ~2000 RPM. Under the same conditions the 2010 turns ~1750 RPM.
So far (and under these conditions) the six speed transmission seems to make up for the difference in weight, engine, and gearing. No doubt things would be different with a heavier foot, hilly terrain, cargo, trailer, etc.
new to the forum and new to an 09 f150. thankfully, mine traveled 780 miles from where truck was located to dealer where purchased. so the lousy breakin mileage was pretty much at the expense of the dealer. here's the numbers believe it or not. 15.5 city, 20.1 interstate (72mph), 20.5-20.9 highway (61mph). of course, i'm keeping my foot out of it for the most part. sure beats the 11-14 that the 01 f250 crew got. haven't hauled with this truck yet, but i'm already convinced that this is the best built and engineered ford truck i've ever owned.
25 on the highway? Sorry, I don't buy that at any speed with any V8 and any gearing, especially on a 4WD.
Better buy it because that is the norm for these trucks, got 24.7 right out of the box with mine first trip. 3:31 gear ratio. Have made many trips at 24. towing 10K 5th wheel in tow haul mode 13. 330 hp v-8 6 speed trans.
