Trunk Door Does't Open (Escape 2001)

Hello.
Yesterday I bought a Ford Escape 2001 the car is very nice, but already I have a problem.
I can open my trunk door or the window (front the trunk door).
Maybe someone had this problem because I don't know what to do.
I search for the recalls but nothing similar with this problem.
I hope that someone could help me.
Thank you .

found the cure

I had the same problem with our rear hatch. Intermittantly working and then not working at all. After looking in the search engine on this forum, under "rear hatch won't open" I found a posting listing the part # for the solenoid only, from an aftermarket source. (Ford makes you buy the whole handle and actuator assy. for $200 or so). The solenoid was $10 plus shipping. Installation was straight forward except the rod that connects the solenoid to the mechanisim needs to be modified and the wires spliced instead of the modular plug on the stock one. If your not that mechanical, you may want the stealership to do it , but if you have some skills, you can save alot of money! (If Ford had put a freaking key hole on the rear hatch it wouldn't be such a big deal) Search the threads and you will find the post for the part. Hope this helps.

I found it

same problem on my 01 Escape. replaced solenoid with unit from Parts Express online. Sku 330-582. After removing 4 screws from inner hatch trim cover and snapping out cover, the complete assy is exposed. Remove 1 phillips screw and 4 10mm nuts and assy comes apart. I then replaced the solenoid with the aftermarket unit(you will have to bend the included rod to match fit because it doesn't have same rod as the factory unit). Then wire the new unit to factory wiring(green to pink and blue to pink with black stripe. Done in 1 hour total. Price for solenoid $10.50, price if you have to buy whole latch assembly from Ford $147.00. (Ford only offers complete latch, lock, handle as a part)
