Question 77 460 coolant temp switch?

so far this site has helped a poor non mechanical person like me out a lot. i have ran accross one more thing that i just can't seem to figure out. my temp gage in the dash does not work. i have been trying to fine a diagram of where the wires go and where the temp switch even is. no luck. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE THE COOLANT TEMP SWITCH/SENDING UNIT IS ON MY 77 460? thanks

It is near the thermostat housing screwed in the manifold. Like between the distributor and where the upper radiator hose goes in the top of the engine.

Yes. There is a single wire that goes to it. The wire has a small rubber boot on the end of it and that slides down over the small stud (about 1/8" in diameter) that sticks out of the top of the sending unit. That wire is color coded, along with all of the other ignition wires. They all run together back towards the fire wall, usually across the top of the engine, to the wiring harness connectors by the firewall on the drivers side. Also, if your engine is not grounded to the fender or firewall you will have gauge issues as well.

(Put your Econoline in gear put it in N or D I just learned it myself with my 84 ford mountain traveler that has a 460 in it some gauges won't work unless in gear idk why Ford did it like that but try that and let me know cuz my gas gauge wouldn't work until I put it in gear or it has something to do with the toggle switch under the dash
