OK,

the good news is that it sounds like they are just putting a fuse in the circuit.

The sensor is a pressure sensor that is connected to the brake master cylinder that sends a signal to disconnect the cruise control when brakes are activated.

The problem comes from the wire being always powered, and if fluid leaks into the switch, it corrodes and shorts, causing a fire.

So..... don't waste too much time on this... take it to Ford, and let them install the $2 fuse.

For our trucks, it's installing a small harness under the brake master cylinder. One dealership told me it was a walk-in procedure only and I would have to leave my truck with them for AT LEAST 2 hours. Went to another dealership when they opened the service gates and the service manager popped the hood and installed it himself in about 3 minutes and I was out the door.

Just received my recall notice in the mail tonight........I have been ignoring the three prior CPS notices because I am still running my "original" CPS with 94,000 on her and no issues but I guess I will have to take it in and get the speed control recall done, hopefully if I ask real nice they wont touch the CPS.

Tell the service manager you dont want the CPS recall done. You just might get lucky and have a shop that has decent customer service.

I just had this recall done today. Told them I DID NOT want the cps changed, they said no problem, just sign here that says I refused the cps recall. They did the wiring recall in the drive in while I stood there. Reps to Broadway Ford, Green Bay, Wi.

Somebody give me some advice to check the recalls (campaigns as FORD likes to call them) for my '99 PSD...i got the crankcase sensor recall notice, got that done, then the stealership called and told me they had "located" 2 more safety recalls, 1 for a brake line rubbing issue, and the other for a post collision fuel tank issue...i have not received any notices on these issues, so, i want to keep 'em honest...don't want Bit Mo' at the stealership anymore than it needs to be...they already tried to gouge me for $900 for ball joints which I repaired for $155 with Moog ball joints...help me out FTE family...

I purchased the recall harness from ford. It was less then $15 dollars. It's well worth the $ to not have to sit and wait for the dealer to unplug one plug and put a 6" fuse harness inbetween. The install took me almost 1 min.

It's so easy. There is a pressure sensor at the end of the master brake cylinder. It faces towards the passenger side of the truck and down a bit. Unplug the 2 wire harness plug. Plug into the one end of the harness. Plug the other end into the sensor on the master cylinder. It only fits one way and is simply 2 fuses. Zip tie harness to secure. If anyone is interested I'll Do a continuity test on the harness and look at the fuses so anyone can do it themselves.

Reps to you Tim. That sounds like a simple explanation. I think I'll bite the bullet and purchase the harness/fuse and attempt to install it my self. Sounds as if it's pretty "idiot proof". Even for us with few tools or any diesel knowledge.

No tools needed. And worth not having to wait at a dealer while they poke around your truck!

When I got on the partsguyed website and searched for the part number you listed Dan it came up with this "Fuel system - Cruise control - Deactivator switch
Deactivator switch, explorer 1995 - 2002"
Since we're not driving exploders is this the right switch?
I'll go anything to avoid taking my truck to the stealership. I think we have the worst of the worst up here in Anchorage Alaska. It's Cal Worthington Ford. Dude's been kicked out of a couple states I hear for bad business practices.
