Ford Recall

Just saw on the news (not sure what program), but Ford announced is largest recall in history. Sounds like the cruise control switch has the potential to start a fire. There were several models affected, but the OBS Strokers were on that list. Not sure what that entails, but sounds like we will be getting a letter with further information.

Anybody hear about this?

My 95 OBS gasser was on the recall many moon ago, and the wife's 00 Exploder has been done also. All they do initially is install a wiring harness between the factory connector and the cruise switch on the master cylinder that has a fuse in it. If the fuse ever blows, you go back to Ford and they install a new sensor free of charge. Takes all of 5 minutes to get it done.

Saw it on the news too, wonder if that's why the CC stops working after about 30 mins? The starts working again after 5 or 10??

Its been on going for years.
First was just a change to the new red switch.
Now its the addition of a fuse on the line.

So what you guys are saying that since my CC doesn't work.... this recall most likely won't fix it. Haha.

I went to the link with my VIN and got this:
Open Recalls

Recall: 09S09
Description: SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH INSPECTION

Shoud I be worry about this? Take any action?

BTW I have read here that the Recall for the cruise control switch has the potential to start a fire, was only for gassers, I dont know, but IIRC Cuda Jim and Rodney (aka bluemule), told that.

You CC may not be working because of the switch on the end of the master cylinder. Jumper acrossed the plug and if you CC works the switch is bad. The switch becomes disabled when brake fluid seeps into the switch. Easy to change, just unscrew and replace. Move quickly so as to not loose a great deal of brake fluid.

Yup, mine's recalled too. It was at the dealer already getting the PCM reflashed, so I had them fix whatever this thing is too. Not sure if I needed it, but I didn't want to make a trip back the dealer to fix something that hasn't been an issue for the 13 years of my trucks life.

It's nice to know some dealers still know what they are doing. I took my F350 in to reflash a few weeks ago and noone could remember how. Finally the service manager pointed to this old computer in the corner and said maybe that's what that was for. What an idiot. I did find out that Ford no longer supports the programs for the OBS trucks anymore though. At least not for this dealer.

I fixed my cruise myself a long time ago.

The recall started for the gassers of many models. For some reason in the OBS trucks the gassers have battery power at that switch but the diesels have Ignition power. The gassers have the potential to start a fire anytime the batter is hooked up., Our truck on face the danger when the key is on. My buddy lost his Centurion 4 door bronco due to this the day before the recall came out a couple years ago. Ford said SORRY!

Mine too. My CC has always worked fine but I guess I should take care of this before a trip first week of Nov.

Tim - good to see you back on here. Sux about your buddy's Centurion though.
