If anyone is interested in taking on the position of Chapter Leader and is wondering what is involved, here is my take on it.
It does not take too much additional time if you keep on top of things. For example, one of your duties will be approving or denying chapter membership which only takes a few minutes and you need to remember to check to see if there are any requests. Once a person is approved, I usually leave a visitor's message for the person welcoming them and also post a welcome thread in the chapter for other members to post in.
Also you need to be visable to the chapter members by taking time and posting regularly in the chapter, starting threads and just trying to get interest generated in the chapter. This may take some time, but once you get people stopping by, that helps to create interest.
There are other duties and there should be other Chapter Leaders that will be stopping by to add to this.

First let me say thanks for taking a big step in keeping the FTE an important site for Ford Truck owners. As you already know, there's tons of info here and part of our job is to make people aware of the site.
As the other CLs said earlier...this is about having time to devote to being on line. You don't have to spend hours on line, but to be successful, you have to be online just about everyday. I probably spend 2 to 3 minutes a day in my state forum (WV) and 10 to 15 minutes in the Super Duty and 6.0 boards.
It's a great way to meet and talk with others too. Give it a try, you won't regret it.
Joe

Along with the info put in by my fellow chapter leaders, another thing that we leaders try to do is the occasional get together of members. Some states have more than others, we have 3-4 a year in Nebraska. It's nice to be able to put names with faces, and meet new people! You'll have plenty of help, and ideas from the rest of us on how to get things going! Any of you guys thinking of doing this, give it a shot, it's worth you time!

I recently got elected as a CL and let me tell you. It is a great thing. I really like doing it and I have spoken to many many people I otherwise wouldn't have.
It does not take up much of your time if you don't want it to. Then again you can make it take more time if you so choose. I have made a map of most of our members and that took quite some time but is very rewarding and easy to maintain.
Other things would be to coordinate events and/or get togethers. We try to have a GTG atleast monthly in the east side. Since the election we now have a group of people that are getting together monthly in the mid TN section as well.
You don't have to have that many meets but you will be surprised how quickly people become interested once you put forth the effort.
I'd actually volunteer for it, but I'm currently looking to change career's and if I get the job I'm going for I will be gone for a year in Afghanistan.
I can't add much to what my colleagues have already said other than to encourage anyone who's considering it to go ahead and take the plunge.
The increased involvement in FTE due to being a chapter leader has made the experience much more enjoyable for me, and through chapter meets I've met a good number of folks and made a lot of friendships, some of which extend beyond the website.
Go ahead and give it a try.....you've got nothing to lose, and plenty to gain, IMO.
