This guy might have some useful perspective in this thread:

Of course, things will be slightly different, but there's still some useful info in there.

I'm also in the planning (aka dreaming) stages of transplanting a mod motor into my '69 F100 2wd. From what I've gathered from the thread above is the taller deck height of the 5.4 may be an issue with the vacuum booster and heater box. Of course if you go hydroboost or something... I was planning on using a the front cradle from the '05-up CV, as opposed to 79 F150 guy using the factory front suspension and mount towers. The 4.6/5.4 should bolt right up to the CV cradle, correct?

Everyone I've seen overcomes the physical challenges sooner or later, it's the electrical challenges that trips everyone up. There are some aftermarket controllers to help here, but they want aftermarket money for it too.

I say go for it and document and post everything!!

I've been researching the 4.6 ECU for the late 90's for my wife's Cougar having an O2 heater circuit issue, and found a few things.

Get a 5-speed manual ECU for a 96-97 Mustang/t-bird/Cougar if you are using a 2-valve modular. You can use just about anything behind it, if you get the right bellhousing or adapter. Or, get the auto, and put a 4R100 behind the engine.

Get a custom tune, and you're all set.

The 4R100 takes a regular speedo gear, can be beefed up pretty well, and everything else should just "work". If you were going for 4x4, well, I'm sure you can match it to an F150 transfer case that originally had a 4R100 (or AOD) in it.

Jamie a 5.4 should work in your 68 may be tight or hit the power sterring. Also probably will have to fab headers. I have put a SC 5.4 in my 63 Unibody and it is tight but worked well overall. The motor mounts were a little difficult and I decided to go with solid fabed ones and scrapped the idea of using the originals. Go for it and good luck.
