need help with 92 f150 step side 5.0ho swap
Complete newbie here... and not a mechanic. I have a buddy with a 92 stepside 4x4 (now with 35's) that came with a 5.0 and E4OD. The motor went years ago and he recently picked up and installed a newly rebuilt 5.0ho with performance cams from a 93 stang. He kept the truck intake and did not do the mass air conversion.
What computer do we need to run that motor with the E4OD? What else do we need to do to get it running well? Does that set up need the Mass air? Seperate transmission controller?
He has the original truck eec and the stang eec, but the stang had a manual tranny. We tried the stang computer and the motor sounds completely different (in a very good way), but I know it will not run the tranny.
The truck runs O.K. now with the truck eec, but it runs very rich, and is very hard on fuel. It seems to have decent power, but not as good as it could be. Any help (in very basic terms for a cabinetmaker) would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

To make that combo work right you need a truck MAF computer and engine wiring harness for a 5.0/E4OD combo. The truck also needs a minimum 4.56 gears too.
The stock '92 truck computer is the only one you have now that will work correctly with the existing wiring harness and transmission but it's not compatable with most aftermarket cams so it will never run right. The easiest way to make this motor work decent is to find a stock 5.0HO cam and swap it in, the mustang computer you have uses sequential injection and won't work right without the matching engine harness, but even then it won't run the transmission.
