Question '52 F-1 glove box question

I picked up a reproduction glove box from Dennis Carpenters for $25. I have been pretty pleased with their quality on prior purchases. The glove box arrives, and it is basically folded black press board. From what I understand, that is what the original ones were made of.

The box fits into the opening okay, but the bottom sits about 1 inch above the sheet metal that the hinge mounts to (see picture). There is no support here. With just a little weight, I think the bottom will collapse. Is this how the original boxes were?

<OIf this box is correct, I won't hassle Mr. Carpenter (even though I have had to take out a second mortgage on the house to pay for all the parts I have bought this year!). The other problem with the glove box is that the hinges contact the box when closed. I am considering making a metal bracket to support the bottom and cutting the box to correct the deficiencies, but hate to do this if the box is just not right.

<OThanks for any input, Fred<O</O

If you look around in there with the box out, you'll see there is a screw to a bracket undeer the top of the dash, I don't remember exactly where. Also, mine fit about the same (DC piece too) and after a year or so I figured out I had it in upside down! I bought mine over 8 yrs ago, and yours could be different.

I'm thinking too that it's upside down. It should mount below the hinge arms.

It's kind of a pain to put in. Ross is right and it has the support screw in the back. Once in they are alot stronger than they look. I have about 20 pounds worth of "Salesmans handbook," "Owners Manual," "Heater Manual," flashlight, fuses, spare bulbs, etc, and it is fine.
