New diesel on the way

Well, I talked a guy into trading my rolling rust pile Wagoneer for an 82 Mercedes 300SD. The body of the car is crap. Faded paint, none of the power windows work, the leather is dryrotted, etc, but the engine and trans are in great shape. My general intent is to drop the engine and trans with a divorced transfer case into my 81 Courier while it's getting converted to 4x4.
Now for the fun of modding a new engine!

Currently hogging the engine bay:

The stock Craptachi carb fell apart, so I slapped on a 1.21 Motorcraft 2150 I had sitting around. A bit much for the 2.3, and hastened the end: The blowby was so bad, it basically pukes all it's oil out the breather inside 500miles.

I'll post pics once the swap is underway. I might be stuck actually driving this car for a little while.

nevrenufhp is starting off with a positive reputation.
What pump is that on the Benz? It looks like a variant of a Bosch, but I cant see to well, and never had the pleasure of "adjusting" those. Something like a model number PES-5MW? Then add compound turbos and hogged out injectors?

From what I've been able to find, the most common mod is to put in larger injectors, send the pump to be bored out, and run a much larger turbo. As-is, it's not intercooled, so that's the first thing on the list. There are about half a dozen screws you can adjust inside that back plate, but everyone says "small adjustments" without giving anything resembling a hint of what a small adjustment is, and also a warning that if you get carried away with the torque screw, the engine can run away. Again, no hint on how much is too much.
I'm going to steam the engine some time this week, I'll probably wind up driving this thing for a few days since it has almost half a tank.

Research shows this is an MW pump, 5.5mm plungers. If I ever hit the lottery, I can send it to Finland to be bored out to 6mm.
I'll probably add an intercooler, do a few slight tweaks on the pump, and run it for a while.

Well, I've been driving this thing for most of the past week, and it's not bad. I adjusted the ALDA (smoke limiter) so it actually can make it across an intersection before the light changes, and this car really does move nicely.
I'm actually considering finding another to put in my van, it has a 300-6 now. Might have to change my name to Ford_Five then................
