95 to 93 F450 E40D swap?

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a 95 F-450 Super duty with a 7.3 turbo diesel RWD. While driving the trans started shifting hard. At one shift something broke instantly no forward or reverse.
I have found a 1993 F450 non turbo diesel RWD E40D and was assured by the seller that it would interchange. After pulling the old transmission and having them on the floor side by side I noticed 2 things, First the old tourque converter has 6 bolts were the new one only has 4. I got the old T/C rebuilt thinking that was my only problem. Now I am ready to install the transmission in the truck and I find that the plug for the solenold pack is slightly different. They both have 9 pins but are not interchangable. Can I swap plugs?? Any help would be great as I took today off work to get this done and now I am at a stand still. <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->

Ford may have them. they have them going the other way, from the older chassiz to the newer trans.
THe IDI's only had 4 bolts in the convertor
Another thing, is you're swapping to a weaker trans now, as they were updated and made stronger in 95.
while you have it out may be worthwhile to do your updates, line pressure mods, etc....

I have the plug off the old truck, can I splice it onto my harness? The pins are in the same location so it wouldn't be hard to do. What I really need to know is will it work ok with the later computer ect.
Thanks for your help

Dont know for sure, but i'll say most likely. they other way, newer trans into older truck works.
so long as you get the pins correct.
Or get a newer solenoid pack.

How involved are the updates? Is this something a non transmission, shade tree mechanic could do? Unfortunately $$ is a real issue right now.

Well they are not for a beginner.
None of the stuff is THAT expensive individually but, they do add up.
However they are MUCH MUCH cheaper than a new trans.
Run this thing, and go through your old one and fix it up....
Torque Convertors are a common failure on them too though...
I got mine done at a shop with a Shift kit and line mods done, updates,..It really makes a huge difference. It damn near kicks you in the but when it shifts now....
afterwards i checked in on prices and could have done it myself cheaper but it was my DD, so no time to tackle that myself.

Help, I disconected the battery for a couple of hours but no change. Can it be a diod or something other than the transmission its self? If the transmission is bad I need to get it out and back to the seller to get my money back but I would hate to go through all that if it's a simple fix.

I spoke with a transmission mechanic and was told that if the truck did not move at all it has to be in the transmission itself. Is that true? He had me unplug the soleniod block, still nothing. Then I drained the tourque converter into a 5 gal buckett with a clean white t shirt tied over the top. The fluid was clean with no metal. Then I dopped the pan to check the fluid which was clean and make sure the filter/pick up had not fallen off. It was ok and not clogged. I need to pull this and get my $ back if The tranny is indeed bad. Is there anything else I can do or is this tranny bad? Can the 93 soleniod keep the 95 truck from having any gears? The seller says the tranny worked when pulled?? I really need some help with this.

it mounts on the shift linkage, used to be called the neutral safety switch, and i read somewhere that if its not working you may have shifting problems. dont know if it would be a "no go" problem or not.

UPDATE Removed transmission this morning and took the tourque converter back to the rebuilder to confirm it was OK and the splines were striped out. I'll be reinstalling in the morning. Hopefully this will take care of the problem.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT RESPONDED.
