Look in your wallet Joe. Does a $800 welder work a better than a $400 welder? Yes it absolutely does. The controls on my 175A Miller make very minor heat adjustments. Big upgrade from my Lincoln 135A and Century 115A. I can use larger wire for smaller stuff and not be jacking around with spool changes constantly if I choose. And it is really sweet on the heavier metal like frames and such. I don't like to use smaller 110 units on chassis fabrication if for no other reason than the beating your welder takes. Will a cheaper welder get you buy? Certainly, I used one for 15 years. You can still build a nice truck. Just stay away from the super lowend MIGs. You will get approximately what you pay for.
