but you wouldn't be able to hear me from all the dain crickets over there in the unused space . what i am trying to wrap my tired mind around fella's and need an answer for is this . is there a way to run power brakes off it ??? i recall someone saying they don't make / build enough vacuum , and maybe i'm just getting weak minded , but somebody explain it to me . i got all sorts of stuff laying around from the vic now the 91 bird parts car and want to use it . by the way go check out paul hortons welder series website . i went and looked and lo and behold he makes INEXPENSIVE brackets and some other things i'm having issues getting right .

I don't know who said a flathead doesn't produce vacuum, but you probably shouldn't believe anything else they said either.

The big trucks running the same flathead you're talking about used vac assist brakes. If you need more, add a vac reservoir like most modern trucks have. You've seen those black-painted fruit juice cans under the hood of most vehicles.

btw, I wouldn't ask a question like that on fordbarn - those purists will hand you your butt if you catch them in the wrong mood.

A friendlier, tech-oriented, anything-goes-flathead site can be found here:

A true 8RT manifold from an F-3 and larger will already have a larger vacuum port for power brakes. (and a separate one for the wipers). I have a Canadian aluminum one. They are also useful for PCV setups.

my red truck has vacume brakes has a booster under the floor with a hose running from below the carb, there is also a breather type thing on the firewall that has something to do with it. Once something went wrong and the vacume sucked brake fluid in to the inlet manifold Smoked like hell Vacume is not a prob as you dont have foot down on throttle when brakeing

If lack of vacuum was an issue could you use a belt driven vacuum pump like on a Power Stroke Diesel?
