But,they honestly can in that situation.
If you alter the rpm operating range of the engine, then it will affect the power steering pump by operating it at a higher RPM than stock. That could easily be considered a failure related to the tuner. There isn't an arbitrator or court in this country that will side with the vehicle owner in this situation.
Example....If I were a vehicle manufacturer, I cannot void your warranty for putting a set of the newest blingy wheels on it. But, if those wheels have on them a set of tires that are larger than the original size, then we have an increase in load on this vehicle 100% of the time, and for this I can void your warranty on the powertrain and the suspension.
If it's related....they can void the warranty.
Now,how far a particular dealer takes it is another big question. Ford doesn't really get too involved on most small claims, but if you have any large claim-engine,trans,etc....then they want more information. And god forbid your diesel break with a tuner being used-you're screwed-unless the dealer is really good "buddies" with you.

Johnny brings up a good point too, that they usually look for tunes on the diesels because it's so easy to get BIG power and BIG $'s repairs that go along with it
That is a good point -- I was wondering if you have an aftermarket muffler ( Magnaflow, FM etc...) - would they be able to blame that for having broken exhaust manifold bolts ? I wonder where they intelligibly draw the line ...

fordmdb is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE. fordmdb is gaining momentum as a positive member of FTE.
Warranty is always a factor. I always suggest locating a mod friendly dealer. Most dealers are pretty easy going on gas vehicles and would have to prove power steering pump went out because you had an aftermarket part installed on your vehicle.

Here is SCT's position on warranty and other things.
