manual trans swap c750

Does anyone know anything about the eaton fuller 4-A-86 trans from I am guessing a 1965 american 7450 crane? It was the only thing I could find any mention of such a trans being used in. It has the similar shifter apparatus on top of it like the c series has, only it points to the opposite direction, driver side. From what I can tell it may be a 10 speed, not sure if thats a good thing or not. I'm looking at replacing the clark 5 speed and wondered if this might work?

As far as I can tell, there is not much to be found via google for that trans, which is not unusual for big truck stuff that old.

Is that a 4 speed? The closest I found comes up a 4 speed:

By comparison, the Clark is common.

Not likely.
What truck and trans are you wanting to replace?

1968 c750 with a clark 5 spd, looks like it will bolt up as it already has a SAE bell housing on the fuller, will need some fab work to adapt the ford shifter assembly onto the fuller.

Curious tho, does a 10 spd trans have only 3 shift rails? I don't see any external connections for anything other than the clutch and remote shifter head.

A fuller 10 spd is a 5 spd trans with a hi/low range splinter on the rear of the trans normally operated by a air switch on the shifter handle
The fuller tran has a SAE bell housing but unless you C-750 has a diesel engine it normally won't have.
A C-750 will probably have a 361 gas engine that has a round bolt pattern but that just a FE/FT bolt pattern, not SAE

What's wrong with the Clark trans

Nothing wrong other than rpm's it wants to operate at and the fact that I would like to put a desiel in the truck, the school bus rear axle seems to be very common and Vanderhaugs ? has many ratios to make the diesel happy.

Ah, so that bellhousing is not going to work. I guess I need an SAE bell as well now, would it be a #2 bell?

I would guess #2 as most med duty manuals are, but I think there are some oddball #3's so I'd make sure before purchasing. I just posted a thread on my c-700 Cummins conversion and I'm in the middle of swapping it back to a manual trans, check it out if you get a chance.

Thanks, I just went thru it and found some ideas for what I want to do, although I am a bit torn between making the factory shifter work or using your method
