well I see a K&N intake on it. Does it help, some say it does. Most likely it is a reuseable air filter.

As for the turbo, the orginal may have been wore out. Garrett makes a good turbo.

Air Restriction Gauge, you're right about letting you know when to clean the filter. There is a button on the end of it to reset it when you clean it.

I don't know if you have an early or late '99 (engine differences between the two). I know that the Garrett GTP38 is the stock turbo starting in late '99. Also, the wastegate is used to control boost pressure output from the turbo.

the clear restrictor gage is a stock item. It lets you know when the d/p gets too high (clogged filter) so that you can replace/clean the filter. Your diesel sucks a LOT of air and I would recommend a dry filter of some sort. If it is a K&N, IMHO I would replace it. it does not filter very well and your engine will suck out the oil and ingest it. I had an aFe for a bit, but I couldn't keep it clean. Coupled with the fact that the OEM air box doesn't seal well, I went the way of the "6637" mod like many others (do a search on it and you will have more info than you ever wanted about it).

I think the '99 came with 235Hp and around 500lb-ft of torque. The K&N wil help a little and so will the Banks. Banks is not known for being a very cost effective, bang-for-the-buck, mod for the Powerstroke (at least for the 7.3L), which is why you'll see very few people with anything Banks in their signature. My '03 has 250Hp and 525lb-ft of torque, and I would guesstimate that you are somewhere around there as well...

Just my .02

I'm no diesel guru by any means but the gains posted above seem about right. If you're really looking to open up that 7.3 and get those 42's rolling, get a programmer (and gauges to monitor egt/boost/etc).
