x2 if you bought that super runner ttb setup crap (or whatever it's called) i think you are screwed, let us know what all you bought and is it installed or still in the boxes.

 

I got 4 ball joints... which i cant use. two moog tie rod ends and a moog drag link. also a steering stabilizer and a couple of skyjacker 8000 nitros.

 

and all are installed except for the stabilizer and shocks... going on this weekend

 

None of that stuff will be used on a SAS swap on your truck. Well, maybe the shocks and its possible the steering stabilizer can be used. The tie rod and drag link will not work for certain.

 

bummer... o well... itll be a while anyway.

 

Has anyone cut the engine crossmember and plated it to reinforce it so you don't have to run a 4" lift?
just looking at it and it looks like I could gain a good 2-3 inches of clearance by trimming the ttb mounting section of the crossmember.

Not looking to do much offroading except for the dunes so I don't really need the flex and articulation.

 

i've seen it done to a lot of trucks, but never without any lift. it's generally done by guys running 4'' lifts that are running into issues with the axle contacting the x member, so i'd say you are probably s.o.l. if you think you can go dune hopping with no lift and not have contact issues with zero lift.

 

well, I guess when I say the dunes I wouldn't be jumping around. Just riding around and taking it easy with the family. got the jeep for dune hopping...

Either way it sounds like at least 4" of lift is the way to go.

 

Ive never personally seen an 80-96 F150 with an SAS and less than 4" lift.

 

Love this thread. Glad I finally found it. Sas on my 80 f100 is going together in the next week, its good because I don't have anything to refer to. I haven't grasped why I need a f350 drag link tho.

I have the stock one from the 79 bronco. Why can't that be used?

i just reread this and i have a little tidbit to add for the guy who planned on using his ttb lift springs to do a sas or anyone else who plans to try it; don't do it.

the ttb springs are way the hell stiffer by design of the ttb axle and they won't flex worth a shyte with a mono beam axle. ttb springs are a heavier rate to accommodate the "wing action" of the ttb axle's movement and radius arm design. it might not make sense to some, but trust me, i read it on the interweb and i am an expert

 

Stock link from 78-79 bronco has the wrong tapper to the pitman arm end of the drag link. Plus its the wrong length.

What is that bracket for? im assuming u had to custom fab it?
