So, Im going to be putting 79 F250 Axles in my 92 F150. After this is all said and done I was wondering what category I would look under for getting a lift kit for my truck. Would I look under 79 F250? or say 92 F350?

 

hmmmmm, 79+92/2x4+4x4x4=327/4=81.75 so you should buy lift kit parts for an 81 3/4 ton truck. math makes everything so simple.

1/2 of 13 is 6.5
79+ 6.5= 85.5
so he needs lift kit parts for a 85 1/2 f-150 and a half

Are you retaining coils and radius arms or are you swapping the leaf springs from the 79 in as well?

 

im planning on coils in the front, but swapping out the rear leaf springs (since f250 springs are heavier duty). I know I need to buy new coils up front that add at least 4" of lift.

Wow! That was a great thread and I will probably follow it carefully. So are you saying that I should do coils? Or should i use the 250's leaf springs. From the research ive done most people prefer coils up front vs. leaf springs because the ride is smoother. And also my dad was telling me that i shouldn't use 250 axles because then my truck will be 8 lug instead of 5. What do yall think?

 

A 44 is a 44 is a 44. Doesnt matter 5 or 8 lugs the strength is exactly the same.

A 9" is basically the same in the strength department as a 60 rear so it would be a matter of preference and what matching set of axles you find...be it 5 or 8 lug.

It would be easier to use coils with a 5lug 44 front from a 73-79 150 but nothing wrong with leafs up front if you found a 44hd or 60 and matching 8 lug rear

 

Well i just talked to the guy selling the 79 and he won't move on the price so its back to square one trying to find one :/

 

Find a 85.5-97 F350. Cheaper, and good axles under them.....
