Motorcraft Carburetor 2100

I am rebuilding (again) the carb on my 1968 Ford F-100. The parts breakdown in the rebuild kit shows an air distribution plate above the venturi cluster assembly. My carb does not have this part. How does this plate affect the operation of the carb? Is it needed for better performance? It has run ok for years without it. I would like to improve fuel efficency. Some books show it, some don't. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to FTE

That plate was only used on some 1970/72's & on all 1973/74's.

Basically, the same Auto-Lite/Motorcraft 2V carbs were used on cars/trucks from 1962 thru 1974.

The FoMoCo carb kit is the same for all of them.

This kit also comes with the choke pull-off diaphragm used on some 1970/72's, all 1973/74's.

D4AZ9A586A .. 2V Auto-Lite/Motorcraft Carburetor Kit (Motorcraft CT499D)

Available from Ford / D4AZ9A586A replaced C2AZ9A586B.

MSRP: $33.42 // FTE sponsor Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $20.05.

Thank you Bill. but even if it wasn't original equipment in our year, would adding the air distribution plate help in any way? WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY DO, to be the new and improved version from the 1968 model to the 1970-1974's? It obviously distributes air, but does it increase efficiency? We live in Florida, in the heat. Is it something to do with atomization/equilization at high altitude, or in extreme cold, or heat or what? Thanks again.
